United States Army Veteran, Mr. Freddie Lee Cuspard of 3479 Framingham Drive, Lithonia, Georgia died Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Rockdale Medical Center in Conyers, Georgia.The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 11:00 a. m. in the sanctuary of the Camp Creek Baptist Church in Unadilla, Georgia. The burial, with military honors, will follow in the churchyard cemetery.Freddie was born on April 2, 1946 in Savannah, GA, to Rufus Cuspard and Jestine Orr Cuspard. He grew up in Valdosta, GA and graduated from PineVale High School in Valdosta.Freddie enjoyed music and played tuba for PineVale High. His dedication and proficiency with the tuba earned him a four-year band scholarship to Morris Brown College in Atlanta, GA, in 1965. While at Morris Brown, Freddie started a major in Music but changed to Food and Hotel Management. He also met the love of his life Mary Pearl and his life-long best friend/brother, Joseph Powell, during his matriculation years at Morris Brown.In 1970, two other life changing events occurred in Freddie?s life. He married Mary Pearl in Newport, Rhode Island, and joined the United States Army. While serving in the Army, he was sent to Vietnam. Later, he was given an opportunity to join and play in the U.S. Army Band while stationed at Fort Knox, KY, in the early 1970s. Freddie ended his Army career after three years, retiring with an Honorable discharge at the rank of E-5.Freddie worked for several major hotels and colleges as Executive Housekeeper and Plant Operations Director during his years of employment. He worked for the Plaza Hotel and the United Nations Hotel both located in New York, NY, as a Front Desk Manager. He also worked for Bryn Mawr College, Bryn Mawr, PA, as Executive House Keeper (13 years) and Plant Operations Manager for Georgia Perimeter College (17 years) at the Clarkston, GA and Decatur, GA locations. He retired from the Decatur Campus in 2010 because of health reasons.Freddie was a very fun, outgoing, and loving person. He was always well-liked and highly respected by his peers, co-workers, and the majority of people he came in contact with. He was a people person and exhibited kindness, generosity, and patience throughout his life. Family meant so much to Freddie and he was always willing to host and celebrate special family occasions and events. He was an outdoors? person who enjoyed gardening, barbequing, and fishing.Most importantly of all, during his early years, he confessed Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized. In his later years, he united with fellow Christian believers at New Life Christian Church, Decatur, GA, and served on the Usher Board before his decline in health.He leaves to celebrate his life: his wife of 43 years: Mary Pearl (Cobb) Cuspard of Lithonia, GA; his daughters: Donica Cuspard of Abu Dhabi, UAE, Natasha (Christopher) Clark of Fort Wayne, IN and Leigh (Terrell) Williams of Lithonia, GA; his grandchildren: (Natasha) Fredric Joseph, Christopher Jr., Zoë Viola-Pearl, and Donica Minnie Leigh (Leigh) Noah Xavier and Isabella Grace; two brothers: Herman Rufus (Lois) Cuspard of Hopewell, VA and Eugene (Louise) Cuspard of Savannah, GA; two sisters: Lue J. (Cuspard) Riley of Hopewell, VA and Mattie (Jerome) Fluitt of Ray City, GA; three brothers-in-law: Frank (Sue) Laidler, Jerome (Dale) Cobb, and Thomas Cobb, Jr.; four sisters-in-law: Charlie B. Cobb, Bertha Cobb Everett, Diane Cobb Jacob, and LaJoyce (Randy) Cobb Woolery; a beloved best friend/brother: Joseph Powell; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
