Jesse was a dear friend, and we took to each other readily. He spent most of his early life protecting his sisters, as the man of the house. And I respected him for that. Through the track team and baseball we bonded. He was one of the nicest guys in the Pratt City community, and every one knew it. Noah Jemison

Cuz I truly can say I'm goin to miss u. But u will always be in my spirit. Take your rest. To the family my family we are goin to make it. Much Luv to all of u. Jackie McCall.

Mr. Jesse's Obituary

In profound sorrow we announce the passing of Mr. Jesse James Crenshaw, Jr. on Tuesday, April 18, 2023.

Jesse James Crenshaw, Jr., affectionately called “CHIN,” was born on January 31, 1942, to the late Reverend Jesse James Crenshaw, Sr., and Esther Jenkins Crenshaw. Jesse’s spiritual journey with Christ began at an early age when he was baptized at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church on Sherman Heights. He later joined Bethel Baptist Church under his father, Pastor Jesse James Crenshaw, Sr.

Jesse was educated in Birmingham, Alabama, where he attended Holy Family Catholic School. From there he went to Western-Olin High in Ensley where he graduated. Jesse ran track, played basketball and football.

After high school, Jesse joined the United States Army where he served 2 years. After his enlistment in the military service he was employed by Alabama Power Company. From there he was employed at the Birmingham Transit Authority, retiring after 30 years of service.

Jesse James Crenshaw, Jr., was married to Dorothy Lamour McKinley Crenshaw. To this union two children were born, one of whom preceded him in death. Two other sons also became a part of this loving family.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife, Dorothy Crenshaw; sons, Jessie Crenshaw III, Javaris Crenshaw, and Corey Hollinhead; four sisters, Valarie Crenshaw, Sharon Crenshaw, Donna Crenshaw Holt (Michael), and Tony Crenshaw Webb (Chester); grandchildren, Tiffany, Jessica, Bre Ana, Cortez, Braisha, and Jazmine; great-grandchildren, DeAndre, Cameron, Legend, and MarLee; sisters-in- law, brother-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.
