Out deepest sympathy to the Shaffer family. So sad to just read this today, or we could have attended her viewing, Mary Lou was a kind neighbor, and we always enjoyed talking with her. The Makar family.

Mary's Obituary

Mary Lou Shaffer, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully on Sept. 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Mary Lou retired from Westmoreland Hospital, where she worked in the pharmacy. A woman of strong faith, she was a member of New Stanton Living Evidence Church and gave much of her time following her retirement volunteering at church, Westmoreland Hospital, Seton Hill University, WCCC, and other organizations. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Elmer "Duke" Shaffer; daughter, Diane Shaffer; daughter-in-law, Mary Jean (Jeannie) Shaffer; and sisters, Betty Ellsworth, Marjorie Krauland Learn Muir (Gigi), and Roberta Rager. Mary Lou is survived by her sons, Donald (Brenda), Jeff, Brian, and Clint (Becky); son-in-law, Hilliary (Jimmy) Diehl and bonus son, Bones; siblings, Robert MiddleKauf and Margaret Kachin; and nine grandchildren, Michael Shaffer, Erica Shaffer (Joe), Jamie Pugh (Dave), Brandon Diehl (Jennifer), Rebecca Silvis (Brian), Nicole Shaffer, Megan Shaffer, Emily Kienzle (Kenneth), and Nick Shaffer. Great-grandchildren, Arielle (Tyler), Abby, Tucker, Aizak, Piper, Keegan, Grayson, Rachel, Hunter, Aria, and Autumn. Great-Great-Great-Grandchildren, Brooks. Immediate family will be received from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2025, with friends and extended family from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with the funeral service immediately following at CLEMENT L. PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME INC., 409 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, PA 15601, (724)-837-0020. A special thank you to the staff at Weatherwood and Excela Hospice, especially Ashley, Kaylee, Jackie, Angie, and Nancy, who provided loving care in her final days. Mary Lou will be remembered for her gentle spirit, deep faith, and devotion to her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Excela Hospice at Independence Health System or to New Stanton Living Evidence Church in Mary Lou's honor.
