It was wonderful having LeRoy as one of my next door neighbors. I'll miss our conversations & will always look back on them fondly.

As you think about all the good times you shared those memories you will still feel in your heart, his laughter, his smile and all your togetherness. Obituary

Mr. LeRoy's Obituary

LeRoy Joseph Johnson, 86, was the first son of five children born to Clifford Johnson and Melba Alexander Johnson on October 24, 1939, in Jeanerette, Louisiana.

On Monday, December 15, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas, LeRoy was called to his eternal rest.

When his family moved to Beaumont, Texas, LeRoy found his spiritual foundation at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, where he proudly served as an altar boy. He began his education at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic School and graduated from Hebert High School in 1958.  After graduation, he served four years in the United States Navy, which took him across the Pacific to destinations such as Hawaii, Japan, and the Philippines.  Experiences that broadened his world but never changed his humble heart.

After returning home, LeRoy attended the National School of Meat Cutting and Brookhaven College, where he earned an Associate in Applied Science – Mid Management degree. He worked as a Merchant Marine and at Weingarten grocery stores in Beaumont, Houston, and Dallas. He was known for his strong work ethic as a Market Manager with Minyard Food Stores in Dallas, from which he retired in 2005.

In 2015, LeRoy married the love of his life, Walterine (Landry) Dacus. They made their home in Carrollton, Texas, and later settled in Fort Worth. Together they created a home filled with devotion, shared faith, and laughter. Though he had no biological children, LeRoy embraced his bonus family with Walterine wholeheartedly.  He also deeply cherished and pampered his three dogs, Maggie, Max, and Wheezy.  Each enjoyed sitting happily on his lap, which reflected his nurturing heart.

LeRoy was a praying man who knelt in prayer daily. He became a member of Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Carrollton, Texas.  He served as an impeccably dressed Head Usher, greeting everyone with warmth. Young men often sought him out for advice, drawn to his peaceful spirit. He loved gardening, estate sales, collectibles, Westerns, politics, and cheering on his Dallas Cowboys. He often quoted, “Peace of mind is everything.”

He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Emmarie Elizabeth White and Mary Louise Williams.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Walterine; his bonus daughter, Tiffany Joubert; bonus grandchildren, Christian Sonnier and Trinity Gaines; his brothers, Clifford Jr. (Beverly) and Hilton (Rachelle) Johnson; and a host of family and friends.
