Mr. Roosevelt's Obituary

Mr. Roosevelt Spivey, Jr. of 1008 Seven Springs Drive, Cordele, Georgia died Monday, May 2, 2016 at the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia.The funeral service will be held Monday, May 9, 2016 at 1:00 p. m. in the sanctuary of the Greater Morris Tabernacle Baptist Church, 701 North Joe Wright Drive, Cordele, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.

Mr. Roosevelt Spivey was born in  Byromville, Georgia on November 4, 1931, to the parentage of the late Mr. Roosevelt Spivey, Sr. and the late Mrs. Lillie M. Wichard Spivey. He was educated in the Dooly County School  System. He joined the Forest Chapel Baptist Church at an early age. He left and moved to Chicago, Illinois as a young man. While there he joined St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. He was married to the late Mrs. Barbara Jones Spivey. He retired from   Adjustable Farm. Later in life, he returned to Cordele, Georgia and united with the Greater Morris Tabernacle Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and ten siblings: Mrs. Maude Higgins, Mrs. Essie K. Taylor, Mrs. Laura Bachelor, Ms. Martha Spivey, Mrs. Annie M.  Williams, Mr. Henry B. Spivey, Mr. Marshall Spivey, Mr.   Willie Joe Spivey, Mr. Jimmy Lee Spivey, and Mr. Bobby Spivey.

On Monday, May 2, 2016 he went home to be with the Lord, leaving to cherish his loving memories two sons, Mr. Samuel (Katina) Spivey of Chicago, Illinois and Mr.       Roosevelt (Lolita) Spivey, III of Wakeford, North Carolina; four daughters, Ms. Denise Edmondson of Wakeford, North Carolina, Mrs. Catherine (Robert) Green of Chicgao, Illinois, Ms. Lenora Spivey of New Jersey, and Ms.   Jacqueline Spivey of Cordele, Georgia; 30 grandchildren, three of whom he reared, Ms. Marquisia Spivey of Cordele, Georgia, Ms. Dominique Spivey, and Ms. Capricia Spivey both of Chicago, Illinois; 32 great grandchildren, two of whom he helped rear, Miss Maraya Spivey and Miss   Madison Simmons both of Cordele, Georgia; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Green of Chicago, Illinois; three brothers, Mr. Charlie Spivey of Cordele, Georgia, Mr. James Spivey of Lauderhill, Florida, and Mr. Johnny Spivey of Bronx, New York; sister sisters-in-law, Mrs. Pearl Spivey and Mrs. Yvonne Spivey both of Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. Sarah Spivey of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Mrs. Darlene Spivey and Mrs. Iris Merrell both of Miami, Florida, and Mrs. Josephine Spivey of Atlanta, Georgia; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
