Mr. William's Obituary

Mr. William Jernigan, Jr. of 607 Eastview Circle, Americus, Georgia died Thursday, March 24, 2022 at the Phoebe-Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.

The graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 4:30 PM at the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Plains, Georgia.  Every one in attendance is asked to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing.

Mr. William Jernigan, Jr. affectionately known as “Lil Bro” was born on November 7, 1936 in Americus, Sumter County, Georgia.  He was born to the parentage of the late Mr. William Hernigan, Sr. and the late Mrs. Lizzie Reynolds Jernigan.

He received his education in the public schools of Sumter County.  At an early age he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.  He attended the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church of Americus, Georgia.  He later attended the Union Whitely Baptist Church of Americus, Georgia and Scott Mater CME Church of Americus, Georgia for 40 years.

For many years he was employed by Cooper Lighting of Americus, Georgia.  He was a dedicated employee until he retired.

On Thursday, March 24, 2022, he transitioned from this life to life everlasting.   He is preceded in death by his beloved, Ms. Louise Virginia McDonald; his children, Mr. Lewis McDonald, Jr., Mr. Gary Jernigan, and Mrs. Annette Foster and his granddaughter, Ms. Alexis Harris.  He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Mrs. Helen Jernigan Moses, Mrs. Mary Hicks, Mrs. Pauline Cobb, Mrs. Bobbie Rose Gatewood, Ms. Gloria Jernigan and Mr. Freddie Lee Jernigan.

 

Left to cherish his memory, he leaves his children, Mr. Calvin (Beverly) Jernigan of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Ms. Teresa Jernigan Chapman and Mr. Patrick Jernigan of   Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ms. Edith McDonald, Ms. Yvonne McDonald, and Mr. Karl McDonald all of Americus, Georgia; 26 grandchildren, to include a devoted granddaughter, Ms. Shawn McDonald; 44 great grandchildren; 28 great, great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; a host of friends, to include a special friend, Mr. Sammy Parker, Sr. of Americus, Georgia.
