Mr. Willie James's Obituary

United States Air Force Veteran, Mr. Willie James Barrett, Jr. of 172 Lake Park Drive, Cordele, Georgia died Thursday, May 1, 2025.

The funeral service will be held Friday, May 9, 2025, at 4:00 PM at the chapel of the J. W. Williams Funeral Home in Cordele, Georgia.  The burial, with military honors, will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.

Everyone entering the funeral home for visitations or services must wear a mask and practice social distancing.  A mask must be worn throughout the stay.  You must supply your mask.

Willie James Barrett, Jr. was born on September 5, 1968, in Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia, to Willie James Barrett, Sr., and Karol Ann Barrett. A dedicated and accomplished individual, Willie graduated from Crisp County High School and pursued higher education with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the U.S. Air Force College in Spangdahlem, Germany.

Willie proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1986 to 1993. He was also a committed member of the Masonic fraternity, embodying the principles of brotherhood and community service.

Willie transitioned on Thursday, May 1, 2025. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Karol; his grandparents, Nelson Jr. & Mary Barrett and Fred Jr. & Martha Gaffney; and his aunt, Mandie Bartley. 

He is survived by his father, Willie James Barrett, Sr. of Cordele, Georgia; his children, Quade’ Barrett of Albany, Georgia, and Najee Barrett of Warner Robins, Georgia; four grandchildren: Ameer Barrett and McKenzie Barrett of Atlanta, Georgia, and Gracelyn Barrett and Mee’shay Barrett of Albany, Georgia; his sister, Angela Alexis (Gabar) of Winter Haven, Florida; his brothers, Eric Barrett (Kim) of Americus, Georgia, and Deodrick Barrett (Shandrell) of Locust Grove, Georgia; his aunts and uncles, Evelyn Simmons, Ruby Lee Barrett, Lonnie Barrett, and Nelson Barrett (Joann) of Cordele, Georgia, Gloria Barrett of Albany, Georgia, Steve Barrett (Kathy) of Atlanta, Georgia, Lula Bivens of Winter Haven, Florida, Johnnie McNair (James) of Bartow, Florida, and Gloria Gaffney of Tampa, Florida; his godson, Jaron Fountain of Winter Haven, Florida; his nieces and nephews: Todd Willis (Stanlena) and Gabari Alexis of Winter Haven, Florida, Marcus Barrett (Keondra) of Hinesville, Georgia, Erianna Barrett of Cordele, Georgia, and Kayla Barrett of Locust Grove, Georgia; his great niece and great nephews,  Da'Liyla Karol Willis, Sincere Willis and Delorean Willis; a host of cousins, other relatives, and many friends, to include his special friends, Chad Lewis and Tyler Bryant.
