I greatly enjoyed the times we spent together in fellowship at the different community events. God bless your eternal soul. Bless the Reece family.

They will help to keep and sustain you especially during those unbearable times.

Mr. Woodrow's Obituary

 

BRO. WOODROW REECE, JR. lived 72 vibrant years serving his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his family, and his community! Woodrow "Woody" was the only son born to the late Woodrow and Jewlean Reece on March 25, 1953, in Orange, Texas. Woodrow was reared alongside his five beautiful sisters, and they later moved from Orange, TX to Beaumont, TX with a short stay in San Diego, CA as well.

BRO. WOODROW REECE was reared and baptized in West Tabernacle Baptist Church, and later joined Peaceful Rest Missionary Baptist Church where Rev. Elmo Chaison currently serves as Pastor. Bro. Reece faithfully attended Peaceful Rest with his mother-in-law, the late Wendolyn Bernard, and his beautiful wife, Cheryl Lynn Cato Reece, of over 50 years. Woodrow was most recently undergoing preparation for his ordination as Deacon at Peaceful Rest.

MR. WOODROW "WOODY" REECE served in many capacities in the United States Postal Service for 43 years and 9 months. Woody began riding a bicycle with the Post Office in his early years and retired as a Postmaster. Mr. Reece served from Beaumont to Houston, and he served as Postmaster in Nederland and Vidor.

WITH A SERVANT'S HEART, Mr. Woodrow Reece faithfully served on the Beaumont Independent School Distric Board of Trustees in various roles over the past 28 years. Mr. Reece has served as President, Vice President, and most recently as the Secretary of the School Board. Through it all, Woodrow looked forward to working with the community, his fellow board members, and superintendents over the years beginning in 1998. He began advocating for his community and students within B.I.S.D. in 1990 with cheerleader tryouts, the Stars of WBHS, honor classes, powerlifting, and any arena he was called upon to speak up for his community. Woody consistently advocated for equal opportunities for all, safe and equitable learning environments, and high academic standards in the classrooms and in the athletic arenas. Mr. Reeces days of "fighting for his community" began many years before his campaign for a seat as a Trustee of B.I.S.D., and most recently he was still found campaigning and recently re-elected for another run as a Trustee of the School Board!

IN ADDITION, Mr. Woodrow Reece, has served faithfully within his community giving away backpacks, winter accessories including hats, gloves, and shoes to students in B.I.S.D. He served his community through T.A.S.B., as well as other educationa entities. Mr. Reece also worked alongside his brothers of the Appomattox Club of Beaumont, TX enjoying the gatherings wit! his brothers and hosting numerous civic and social events on Harriot Street. Mr. Reece was found helping in multiple capacities striving to make the community better.

FINALLY, Woodrow Reece, Jr., was most recently elected as President of the Hebert High School Alumni Association. Mr. Reece has overseen the meetings and preparations gearing up for the Mass Reunion during the summer of 2026. Woodrow has continued to serve actively with the officers of the Hebert High School Alumni until his demise. He was truly looking forward to the upcoming Mass Reunion. Go Panthers!

AS A SERVANT AND LEADER, Woodrow Reece, Jr. served his community and his family for over 72 years. "Woody" loved his family and community. He served until his last breath in the early hours of September 19th. Woodrow preceded in death by his parents: Woodrow and Jewlean Reece, siblings: Peggy Ligon (Joe), Margie Gassoway, niece: Monica Pimentel, and great niece: Jewelean Pimentel. Mr. Reece has left to cherish his many precious memories: his wife of 50 years, Cheryl Lynn Cato Reece, children: Kevin Wayne Reece (Trina), Kristina Nacol Sampson (Franklin), Kimberly Reece Malbrough (Albert), and Kendall Mandel Reece, his thirteen grandchildren: Brenin Reece, Kaleb Malbrough, Franklin Sampson, III, Fraylon Sampson, Chelsea Reece, Kaden Reece, Kristopher Malbrough, Ka’Miyah Reece, Kennedy Malbrough, Kylee Malbrough, Kingston Reece, Khalesee Reece, and Khaiya Reece, as well as beautiful sisters: Mildred (Millie) Reece, Edna Jean Briggs (Tommy), and Heidi Fontenot. Bro. Woodrow Reece, Jr. leaves an amazing legacy in the hearts of his family including a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, as well as numerous friends and former colleagues.  His memories will last in our hearts until that “great getting up morning” when we shall meet Christ in the air.
