Bobbie Jean Mitchell was born July 26, 1953, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Alton and Nannie Espree.
Bobbie Jean attended Lincoln High School and was a part of the class of 1972. She later dedicated many years of service to Baptist Hospital as the head cook, where she was known for her hard work, commitment, and many accomplishments.
After a long-devoted career, she retired in 2014.
Bobbie Jean found joy in the simple pleasures in life. She loved shopping and swinging out, often taking time to relax outside while listening to her favorite music. Cooking was one of her greatest passions, and she took pride in preparing delicious meals that brought family and friends together. Whether it was gathering around the kitchen table or enjoying moments on her patio, Bobbie Jean’s love was always felt through her food, her laughter, and her generous spirit.
On December 31, 2025, at her home, Bobbie Jean was called to her Heavenly home.
Bobbie Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Nannie Espree, brother Alton Espree Jr., and her son, Marcus D. Mitchell Sr., whom we take comfort in knowing welcomed her with open arms.
Bobbie Jean leaves to cherish her memories, her sons, Derrick Mitchell, Dwight Mitchell, Tigee Mitchell, and Jeremy Andrus; daughter, Tashika McCollister (Bill); 32 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Lester Espree (Nikki), Elbert Espree, and Larry Espree; sister, Natalie Witherspoon (James), and a host of family and friends. Though the pain of her loss is overwhelming, we find solace in the memories she left behind.
Her spirit will live on in every shared story, every echo of laughter, and every act of love inspired by her example. We will forever carry her in our hearts.
