Obituary

Mrs. Joyce's Obituary

Joyce Ann Stevenson, born on March 17, 1961, passed away peacefully at her home on January 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Joyce was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud aunt, and cherished member of the Sour Lake community.

For 37 years, Joyce shared her life with her beloved husband, Eugene Stevenson. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, family, and service to others. Joyce was a proud and dedicated mother to her three children: Mark (Cierra) Stevenson, Ja’leesa Stevenson, and Mary St. Andrew-May (Jerry). She was also a loving mother figure to her “kids in love”: La’Toya Benard, Aletha Jackson, Patrick Jackson, Jasmine Smith, Samuel McDonald, Janiayah Anderson, and Kori Williams, all of whom she embraced as her own.

Joyce had a remarkable gift with children. She spent her life lifting them up, encouraging them, and believing in them—often before they believed in themselves. Her passion for sports and youth development guided her for many years of service as a coach at Twin County, where she left a lasting impact on countless young lives. Joyce also worked for many years at Sour Lake Elementary School, where she was known not simply as an employee, but as someone who genuinely cared. Her kindness, patience, dedication, and compassion touched the lives of students and coworkers alike.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Doretha Tyler, and her brother, Calvin Tyler.

Left to cherish her loving memory are her siblings: Serena Jones; Linda (Phillip) Charles; Etta Anderson; Shantel Davis; Vincent (Lucy) Tyler; Johnation (Claudia) Tyler, Sr., Gary (Terri) Tyler, Sr.; and Chris (Vickie) Tyler. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Jonte Pete and Averi Johnson; her godchildren, Delana Jones and Cedric Tyler; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Joyce will be remembered for her deep love for children, her enthusiasm for sports, her dedication to her community, and the unconditional love she gave to her family. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched as a coach, mentor, and—most of all—as a woman who loved with her whole heart.
