Shelva Jean Fontenot was born on April 7, 1947, to Vergie Mae Broussard and Joseph Kirby Augustine in Lafayette, Louisiana. Shelva Jean Fontenot made her transition to her eternal rest on October 10, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and kindness. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She touched so many lives with her sense of creativity, warmth, and generosity. Shelva had an uncanny ability to reach and connect to anyone with her brilliance of mind and huge heart. She graduated with a Master of Education in Administration and a Master of Divinity, using both in a fulfilling life.
Shelva pursued a career in education, working in the Beaumont Independent School District and the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, where she retired. She was a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., The Alma H. Brown Chapter of Order of Eastern Stars. She participated in several ministries, contributing to the edification of the community and society.
Shelva is survived by her daughter, Robbie Cristina Fontenot; granddaughter, Elizabeth Sydney Fontenot; grandson, Elijah Robert-Kelley Fontenot; brothers, Willie Augustine (Sharalyn) and Baxter Faulk; sisters, Chauntel Dean (Jimmie), Ingrid Faulk, Becky Faulk; and a host of nieces, nephews, and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Fontenot; her mother, Vergie Mae Broussard Faulk; her father, Joseph Kirby Augustine; and her brother, Clarence Augustine.
