Ms. Annie Ruth Wright Perry of 500 South Shadowlawn Drive, Albany, Georgia, died Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Affinis Hospice in Albany, Georgia.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the sanctuary of New Birth Fellowship Christian Church in Albany, Georgia. The burial will follow at the St. Matthews Church Cemetery in Leesburg, Georgia.
Annie Ruth Wright Perry, a life well-lived, has concluded its earthly journey. As we celebrate a devoted Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Church Member, and Friend, who embarked on a remarkable journey through life, ….”May the work, she has done Speak for HER”
Annie, the sixth of eleven children born to the late Willie B. Wright and the late Margan Berryhill Wright, was born on June 16, 1948, in Leesburg, Georgia. Growing up in a large family, she was instilled with the values of humility, loyalty to family, and unwavering faith in GOD. Her journey in stewardship began early. She accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age and was baptized at Mount Able Baptist Church in Leesburg, Georgia. She continued her faith journey at 2nd Mt. Olive Baptist Church and ultimately became a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church of Leesburg, Georgia. There, for many years, she served faithfully in many capacities including singing in the choir and acting as the Finance Secretary.
She received her education in the Lee County School System, where she was recognized as an outstanding math student and a skilled basketball player. Her warm and vibrant personality earned her the affectionate nickname "Suger-Mama," which was later shortened to "Sug."
Not long after, love entered her life, and she married, from this union four beautiful children were born.
Annie's journey took her from Leesburg to Atlanta, then to Miami, and eventually back home, where she built a successful career in retail management. She began her career as a cashier, later becoming the General Merchandise Manager at Piggly Wiggly. Her dedication and hard work propelled her to the role of Store Manager at Starvin Marvin retail chains. During her time there, she earned a regional award for outstanding customer service, the highest inventory, and the largest sales increase at the Columbus, Georgia stores.
Annie was an incredible blessing to everyone who knew her. She truly embodied the spirit of public service, community care, and always gave her best to every endeavor she pursued. Her selflessness and unwavering dedication left a lasting impact on all those around. Her home was the heart of family celebrations, neighborhood gatherings, and weekend get-togethers. Many lovingly referred to her as a "Favorite Aunt," "Neighborhood Mom," "Best Friend," and, of course, the "Best Cook!"
As time passed and life slowed down, Annie embraced her retirement years with a few favorite pastimes—watching football and basketball (with a special fondness for the WNBA), collecting church hats, indulging in retail therapy, and playing computer games. However, her most cherished daily ritual was sending inspirational text messages to her friends and family. She always said it was her way of checking in to make sure everyone was "ALRIGHT."
Though the text messages have come to an end and we will forever miss the delightful taste of her mother's sweet potato pie, Annie will continue to walk with us in spirit, leaving behind sweet memories that inspire us to keep moving forward.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie B Wright and Margan Wright, two brothers, Elbert and Willie Wright, a sister, Gloria Chandler, and a cherished grandson Byron Patrick Martin Jr.
Annie leaves behind a legacy of love kindness and strength. She leaves to cherish her memories; her children: LaShawndra Perry of Atlanta, GA. Shakela (Tommy) Mallard, Twyla Perry and Reverend Christopher (Robin) Perry, all of Albany GA. Her siblings: Emma (Nathaniel) Green, Dollie Morgan, Rosie Wright, Meritta Jones, Emory Wright, Darlene Coleman and Leonard Wright. As well as, an unbreakable bond with six grandchildren: Tommy Jr, Latoya, Carltez, Desmond, Quintavious, Breuna, LeMunqueze; 13 Great- Grandchildren, a best friend for more than 55 years, Dorothy Lyons and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
