Obituary

Ms. Elizabeth R.'s Obituary

Ms. Elizabeth Redding Johnson of Lakewood, New Jersey, formerly of Cordele, Georgia, died Monday, August 18, 2025, at her home.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the chapel of the J. W. Williams Funeral Home in Cordele, Georgia. The burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Church Cemetery, Hatley Community, Cordele, Georgia.

Everyone entering the funeral home for visitations or services is required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing.  A mask must be worn throughout the stay.  You must supply your mask. 

With heavy hearts and fond memories, we gather to say farewell to our beloved Elizabeth Redding Johnson, who peacefully departed this life on August 18, 2025, at the age of 70. 

Elizabeth was born on June 6, 1955, in Cordele, Georgia, to the loving parentage of Ulie Redding and Georgia Mae Oliver. She was raised in her hometown before moving to New Jersey in 1976, where she touched the lives of many with her caring spirit and kind heart.

Elizabeth earned her GED in 1980 and dedicated over 30 years of her life to the hospitality industry, working tirelessly as a supervisor. She retired in 2021, but her nurturing nature and loving presence remained a guiding light for her family and friends.

Elizabeth was a woman who loved her family fiercely. Her greatest joy came from her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought laughter and love into her life. Her gentle touch, infectious smile, and compassionate soul will be dearly missed, but her love and legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Mrs. Melissa L. ( Samuel) Jones and Mr. Julius D. Redding, and their father, Mr. Ervin Johnson. She is also survived by her adored grandchildren, Julius Valentin-Redding, Jialeeya Valentin-Redding, Jordan Lee-Redding, Kettrell Redding and Jasean Redding. 

Elizabeth also leaves behind her cherished siblings, Ms. Rosa Mae Stokes, Mrs. Linda (Edward) Parks, Ms. Varonda Roddy, Ms. Tammy Redding, Mrs. Wilma (Eddie C.) Lewis,  Mrs. Lynn (Ronnie) Starks, Mr. Johnny Redding, and Mrs. Eula Mae (Michael) Smith; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; other relatives and many sorrowing friends, to include her lifelong friends, Ms. Carolyn Sheppard and Ms. Danna Joyner.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Mrs. Delois Cross,  Mr. M. C. Redding, Ms. Sharonda Redding, Mr. Willie B. Redding, Mr. Robert Lee Redding, Ms. Gloria Ann Redding and  Mr. David Redding.
