Not sure what to say?

Sister Jeanie and I attended the same elementary school that was just across the street from the church that we both grew up at and received much of our Christian education under the late Pastor, Rev. G. W. Daniels. Though we are grieved that the Lord in His wise council took her away from us, He left the memories of Jeanie's joyous spirit for us to emulate and the living hope of seeing her up Younder where we will be together again with our Lord throughout eternal ages. My prayers are with...

I really enjoyed Miss Mary. She was a joy to be around and always brought a smile to my face. I've only known her for 6 years, but she had an impact on my heart ever since I met her. God Bless.

Obituary

Ms. Mary's Obituary

Mary “Jeannie” Garrett was the fifth child born on May 31, 1953, in Beaumont, Texas, to the late Joseph Garrett Jr. and Geneva Hill Garrett.

Mary received her early education at Adams Elementary School and Dunbar Junior High School. She later graduated as a proud member of the Mighty Class of 1971 from Charlton-Pollard High School.

Jeannie, as she was affectionately known, accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized under the leadership of Reverend Dr. G. W. Daniels at Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church. In her later years, she united with East Mount Olive Baptist Church, where she faithfully served in various ministries under the leadership of Reverend Carl Lewis and later Reverend James Boswell. She remained active in service until her health no longer permitted.

Jeannie was a devoted and caring member of her community who gave generously of her time and talents through her involvement in numerous organizations. She believed strongly in service, fellowship, and lending a helping hand wherever it was needed. Her presence brought warmth, encouragement, and a sense of unity to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was especially well known for her deep love of cooking, which she used as a meaningful expression of her kindness and hospitality. Jeannie found great joy in preparing meals and sharing them with family, friends, and neighbors. Many will fondly remember her famous popcorn balls, her delicious salmon croquettes, and the cherished tradition of her Friday dinners. These gatherings were more than meals — they were moments filled with laughter, storytelling, and love that created lasting memories for everyone she welcomed into her home.

Through her service, generosity, and nurturing spirit, Jeannie touched countless lives. Her legacy of compassion, community involvement, and heartfelt hospitality will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

Jeannie was preceded in death by her brother, Normal Garrett, and her parents, Joseph Garrett Jr. and Geneva Hill Garrett.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories her devoted children, Steven (Yvette) Garrett and Isrechea “Nikki” (Joe) Bolden; and her treasured grandchildren, Damon, Stevanna, Neveah, Samarri, Steven, Jr., Beloved, Timothy, Tyler, and Jacobi. She also leaves to cherish her memories her beloved siblings, Sisters: Joyce Garrett Viney, Patricia Diane Francis (Willis), Cynthia Garrett Wade (Gregory); Brothers; Joseph Garrett III, Morris “Yo-Yo” Garrett (Linda), J.C. Garrett (Yvonne), and Gregory “Udapeck” Garrett (Helen); and her special aunt, Barbara Weatherspoon; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wealth of dear friends whose lives were touched by her love and kindness.
