Murrell's Obituary

Murrell Hatfield Jr. of Champaign IL, formerly of Bossier City, LA was born on January 28, 1947 to the union of Murrell Sr. & Helen Hatfield in Terre Haute, Indiana. He is preceded in death by his parents and  his brother Richard J. Hatfield. The family moved to Maywood, Illinois when he was quite young, where he was raised and attended school.  Murrell accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in the Baptist Church.

He attended Irving School and Proviso East High School.  Upon graduation in 1966 He enlisted in the United States Navy until his discharge in 1970.  Upon his discharge he was employed at Commonwealth Edison as an electrician.  In  1980 he reenlisted in the Navy and was discharged in 1996.  Murrell received many commendations & medals (Expert Marksman, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and many more). he loved to talk about the many pets and critters he would let loose on family as a youth. .He relocated to Champaign, Illinois in 2000 after living in California, Louisiana, Great Lakes, and Australia.

Mourning Murrell’s departure are his four children, Regina Hatfield of Waco, Texas, Julian Rogers Sr (Nieavia Rogers) of Springfield, IL, Murrell Joshua & Manuell Jamal Hatfield of Bossier City Louisiana, and his sister Marsha Purchase (Hatfield) of Champaign, IL.  He was a wonderful Papa to his 6 grandchildren and a favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews, and loved by a host of aunts, relatives and friends.  

Murrell sought peace & solace in reading his bible.   He will be remembered for his words of wisdom, corny jokes, and his caring nature.
