Obituary

Nancy's Obituary

RIPLEY- Nancy Ann Burlingame, 72, of Ripley, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie, PA. She was born April 15, 1953, in Nyack, NY, the daughter of the late Clarence E. and Helen Ananenko Burlingame.

Nancy was a 1971 graduate of Sherman Central School. After earning a BS in Interdisciplinary Sciences from Eisenhower College, she worked as a veterinarian’s assistant and then a land agent for a gas company before turning to dairy farming in South Ripley for the next 25 years.

Nancy was a skilled artist and photographer, an accomplished cook, and an expert gardener—growing a vast vegetable garden as well as an extensive and beautiful flower garden. As part of the West NY Hosta Society, she developed a new variety of hosta. She also cared deeply for animals—from the many horses that she bred, trained, and rode, to the corgis and other dogs she cared for, to the abandoned kittens that frequently turned up on her doorstep. She used her creativity to bring great joy to her family and friends, including organizing a yearly, themed birthday party for far-flung relatives.

Nancy is survived by her loving companion of over 50 years, Stephen Chylinski of Ripley, NY; a sister, Jill Manchester of Yarmouth, ME; a brother, Nick (Susan) Burlingame of Alfred, NY; and four nieces and nephews.

At Nancy’s request, there will be no public services. A private celebration of life will be held at the family’s convenience.
