Nancy Lee Crofoot

December 9, 1936 ~ December 17, 2025

Age ~ 89

Nancy L. (Adams) Crofoot, age 89, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at home in Rhinelander, WI.

She was born on December 9, 1936 in Oconto, WI, and was the daughter of Leo J. Adams Sr. and Elanor (Dory) Adams. She married Byron L. Crofoot in 1955, becoming the devoted wife of a career soldier, and she became a full-time loving mother to Lynn (Weatherford) in 1956, Robert (Bob) in 1958 and Jesse in 1969.

In 1970 she returned to school and became an LPN, a career she loved until her retirement. She remarried in 1980 to William (Bill) Whitehead of Sonora TX, and loved the ranch life and all the activities surrounding the Angora Goats that his family had raised and sheared for several generations.

Following Bill’s death, Nancy moved back to Wisconsin in the 90s and reconnected with her high school sweetheart Raymond Burkhardt. They spent the next 20+ years fishing, riding the motorcycle and loving life together.

Nancy enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities, and was an avid reader until her death. She was a lover of pets, and had many, many dogs and cats throughout her life. She enjoyed playing cards and board games and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, two of her brothers Leo Jr. and Ronald Adams, several other half-brothers and sisters, her daughter Lynn, and her grandson Richard Weatherford.

She is survived by her sons Robert (Sally) Crofoot and Jesse (Tina) Crofoot; her son-in-law Desmond Weatherford; sisters Linda, Debbie, Mary, Julie, Cindy and Lisa; brothers Rick and Jeff; two half-sisters; grandchildren Christopher, Bryan, Anthony, Jasmine and Shawn; 7 great-grandchildren, and far too many nieces and nephews to list.

Nancy’s remains will be cremated and a marker will be placed in the Crofoot burial plot at Prairie Rapids Cemetery in the Town of Nokomis.

A celebration of life will be held at a date to be determined during the summer of 2026.
