Nancy's Obituary

Nancy Mae Noot Goldberger, 94, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, at Capital Health Medical Center in Pennington, New Jersey. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and public servant, Nancy touched many lives through her warmth, intelligence, and spirit.Born on January 7, 1931, Nancy was the daughter of Mae and Al Noot and sister of Donald Noot. She grew up in Nutley, Radburn, and Montclair, graduating from Montclair High School in 1948. She went on to graduate from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she majored in Political Science and formed many lifelong friendships. After college, she completed secretarial training at Katherine Gibbs and worked at Dixon Chemical Company in New Jersey.

It was there she met Arthur Goldberger, a young CPA. The two were married in 1957 and built a loving home and family together. They raised three children—Tom, Sally, and Susan—first in Palisades Park, then in Leonia. Nancy embraced family life and made the most of the family’s proximity to New York City, regularly taking the children to museums, shows, and restaurants. Summers were spent on Long Beach Island, where Nancy’s love for the beach and extended family gatherings had deep roots.

In 1970, Nancy moved full-time to LBI with her children, joining her parents and launching what became decades of public service. She served on the Long Beach Township Planning Board for 30 years, including as Chair, and was actively involved with the local library, Terrace Methodist Church, and the Democratic Club. Her efforts reflected a lifelong dedication to community.

In later years, Nancy and Arthur relocated to Allentown, NJ, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchild, attended hockey games, and remained an avid reader and follower of current events.

Nancy is predeceased by her beloved husband Arthur and son-in-law Brian Christie. She is survived by her children: Tom (Eden), Sally Christie, and Susan (Joe Nolan); grandchildren Emily Goldberger (Jon Levitas), Quinn Christie, Connor Nolan, Hannah Goldberger (Daniel Frim), Tommy Nolan, Joey Nolan, and Annie Nolan; great-grandson Jonah Levitas; her brother Don Noot; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

We remember her fondly for her keen mind, generosity of spirit, and steadfast devotion to family and community.

A private family service was held on July 18. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy’s memory to the Greenwood House Senior Center 53 Walter Street, Ewing, NJ 08628
