Nan was born on August 27, 1941 in Wichita Falls to the late David Lisle and CatherineJane (Jamison) Whitehill. She attended the Academy of Mary Immaculate until it's closing and graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1959. Nan married Thomas Garrett Ruddy on October 7, 1961.
She lovingly cared for her children and Tom and was active with Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church Altar Society. She enjoyed spending time with friends and neighbors over coffee or on neighborhood walks.
Nan and Tom moved to Charlie, Texas in the summer of 1980 to farm and ranch. She was expecting and delivered their last child Richard in December that year. He was such a blessing to the family. As he grew, she became active in his school and grandchildren's activities. She became involved in the Charlie community and helped sponsor the Annual 4th of July celebration. She also served on the Clay County Memorial Hospital Board. Tom and Nan joined Sacred Heart Catholic Church and served as Eucharistic Ministers and Sunday school teachers. Nan was a member of the Altar Society where she had many close friends.
She enjoyed arranging flowers and crafting and was very helpful in many of her children and grandchildren's wedding decorations. Nan was a wonderful cook and passed along her skills. The family always looked forward to all the family gatherings. Her specialty however was her Christmas candy platters she gave everyone that included all of our favorite recipes.
Nan or "Nana" loved spending time with all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Even in recent years as her memory failed, she was always delighted to see them and they always brought a smile to her face.
She was preceded in death by her husband Tom and sister Patricia Lou Halter and brother David Barr Whitehill.
She is survived by her children, Becky Morath and husband Jimmy, Bob Ruddy and wife Leticia, Janet Shine and husband Danny, and Richard Ruddy and wife Carolyn; ten grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren with two more on the way; her sister, Kay Anne Vickerman of Fort Collins, Colorado and her brother, Richard Maurice Whitehill of Leander, Texas.
The family wishes to thank the many caregivers who took care of her in the last few years at her home.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to Holy Family Classical Academy thru Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund, 1501 9th St, Wichita Falls, TX 76301.
