Not sure what to say?

I just read this and was truly devastated, this gentleman was salt of the earth, he gave so much time and energy to less fortunate people and never expected anything in return. I just want to extend my condolences to Seth, who is also just as giving and kind as his father.
When I was 16 years old I made a big mistake and Mr. Sabal looked me in the eye and told me to change my life and my actions or live a life of picking lettuce or chiles. His words changed my life. I went on to get my...

Natalio thanks for everything you did life and for always being there for me when I was a teen. You were a awesome soul may you be in the heavens with the best of them this world will defenetly miss you. My condolences to my childhood friend Seth sorry for your loss my friend.

My condolences to the family. Mr. Sabal was a very kind and very helpful person. Mr. Sabal helped me as a student in ways you would not believe. I will miss you Mr. Sabal for being such a kind and caring person

My condolences to the family. Mr. Sabal was a dear and charming friend. I will miss him.

Natalio was my friend from DeWitt Clinton. I lost touch with him, until one day, some years ago I found him in Douglas. We talked on the telephone, but regrettably, did not visit. I have lived in Arizona for the past 25 years and should have made the trip to Douglas. My loss.

May Adonai keep him and may the name of Natalio Sabal be a blessing.

My friend Natalio who knew much and enjoyed all topics that we would discuss was a rock star to me. He loved his family as well as his community. He was a patriot who believed in education for all. He was loud an boisterous at times but quiet and well caring when he needed to be. He was quite a turtle rancher which made him well known through out the turtle ranching community. For that he was a movie movie star. He was a great story teller of his life as well as of his voyages through it....

Nat was a mentor to me in my early days as a social worker in Bisbee. He broadened my perspective on working with teens and young adults, many of whom experienced marginalization in our community. He will be missed. I'm sending thoughts and concern to his family and friends. The youth community has lost a great friend and support.

NO8DO He loved his family unconditionally. I knew Natalio for a life time. Too many memories to share. He taught me many things about life, the world and bull fighting. Natalio was am amazing man. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten. My deepest condolences to his family

Reston peace Mr. Sabal and thank you for all you’ve done.

NATALIO's Obituary

The family of Natalio Sabal, with great sorrow, announce his passing on December 25, 2020.  A native of Sevilla, Spain and refugee of the Spanish Civil War, he and his family arrived in New York City in the 1930s, where Natalio with his parents and siblings would cultivate a life of service to others.

Before life in Arizona,  Natalio graduated class president of De Witt Clinton HS in the Bronx.  He entered military service in the United States Navy, served both a aboard ship and in Cuba, and completed the medical academy at the Bethesda Naval Medical Center in Maryland (Walter Reed.)

He then went on to finish university with a graduate degree in Psychology.  With an old world charm, the world-travelled  Natalio really loved, lived, and some would argue, he had a few lifetimes of adventures, everything from fighting for civil rights to bullfighting, caring for orphaned children to donating his time, money and energy to protect the less fortunate.

A Douglas resident for nearly 50 years, Natalio managed the Capin’s and Phelps Dodge mercantiles during the 1970s and early 1980s. He joined the Cochise County Superior Court where he worked for 32 years. During his time in Douglas he was a Cochise College Board member for 21 years, and was a member of the Douglas Unified School District for 8 years, including this last year. Natalio spent his lifetime serving the greater good of humanity and education.

He is survived by his son, Seth, who returned to Douglas from New York to spend these last years with Natalio, his daughters Mercedes, Shana  and Leslie, innumerable friends including his longtime friends, Joe and Ray Borane, and the many young people he influenced through his work with juveniles at crossroads in life.

No services are planned at this time; Natalio will be laid to rest at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista at a private event.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you do something kind for someone in need, as Natalio did for a long lifetime.
