Man I’m going to miss you. Missing our fishing trips. Missing your laugh. You will definitely be missed cuz. Now you are reunited with the good old gang fishing and hunting and laughing with no worries in the world. Until I see you again love you cuz. Give my pops a hug for me. Love you.

Nathaniel's Obituary

Nathaniel Thorpe, Sr., affectionately known as "Nat," of South Chesterfield, Virginia, departed this life on Friday, February 7, 2025, at his residence. He was born to the late Clarence Thorpe, Sr. and Elva Ernestine Thorpe. Nat attended Chesterfield County Public Schools and graduated from Matoaca High School. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Union Grove Baptist Church in South Chesterfield, Virginia, where he served as a member of the usher board until his health declined. Nat was also a member of the former Boy Scout Troop #139.

After dedicating 39 and a half years to Dominion Power, Nat retired. He shared a passion for hunting and fishing with his late father and mother. Following in his father's footsteps as a hunter, he joined the Salisbury Hunting Club of Virginia, where he was a member for over 50 years, serving as the recording secretary for five years. In his early hunting years, Nat received a marksmanship award, and in September 2023, he was honored with an honorary member’s award. He enjoyed watching westerns, game shows, and sports on television, especially cheering for his football team, the Washington Commanders.

Nat was preceded in death by his brother, James Oliver Thorpe; his grandparents, William and Carrie McCadamin Thorpe, and John and Dorothy Thomas; a step-grandmother, Lula Thorpe; and a devoted cousin, Amos Thomas.

He is survived by a loving and devoted son, Nathaniel Jr.; two brothers, Clarence Thorpe, Jr. (Camilla) and Phillip Thorpe, Sr. (Betty) all of Chesterfield, VA; one sister-in-law, Felecia Thorpe; five nephews, Timothy Thorpe of Richmond, Tijuan ("CT") Thorpe (Tanya), Phillip Thorpe Jr., and Emmett Tyler all of Chesterfield, VA, and Shannon Tabb of Richmond, VA; three nieces, Sharika Reed (Bryan), Tia Thorpe, and Tamika Uzzle (Alefonzo) all of Chesterfield, VA; a host of great-nieces and nephews; three great-great-nephews; two god-sisters, Patricia Brown and Viola Pope of Chesterfield, VA; god-daughter, Kenisha Pope of Upper Marlboro, MD; six aunts, Arlene Wilson of Aberdeen, MD, Ettabell Hawley (Raymond) of Oxford, NC, Virginia King of Wake Forest, NC, and Alma Kemper, Delores Goode, and Grace Thomas all of Chesterfield, VA; four devoted cousins, Lawerence Jones, James Thomas, Jr. (Carisa) William Manson all of Chesterfield, VA, and Robert Satterwhite, Stem, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.

Services will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 24, 2025, at Union Grove Baptist Church, 19111 Church Road, South Chesterfield, Virginia, the Rev. Dr. William E. Johnson III, Pastor, eulogist. The interment to follow at Southlawn Memorial Park.
