Not sure what to say?

I'm so sorry to learn of Nick's passing, almost a year later. Nick and Tilly were devoted friends of my parents, Tom and Sally Dailey. I remember when Nick has a jaunt for some political office, and we held the rally at our home in Los Feliz. He was always kind, far more progressive than my parents, and had a lot of social justice in his agenda, as did Tilly. I so deeply appreciated their compassion for others and their love for their children and grandchildren.

I enjoyed going to their door on Franklin Ave, in Los Feliz along with their friend, Marian Sarnowski, also their age. I loved the solemn greetings they gave each other, in Polish and/or Ukrainian, (I couldn't tell the difference.) Formal bowing at the door followed by laughter in the kitchen. I miss that little gang, all three of them now gone.

I met Tillie and Nick at Verdugo Woodlands Elementary School in the 80’s. Tillie and Nick were the most friendly, welcoming, and giving of couples - always with humor and love! Nick always had a way of making you laugh and feel good again. God bless all the family, I know you must miss them both! Joyce & Ron Gelsinger

Nick and Tillie were beloved friends to my family for over half a century. I have so many wonderful memories of time with him, going back to my early childhood. He hosted us on many memorable trips when I was a teenager -- Disneyland, Mexico, the Saltan Sea (where the van broke down), Dodger Stadium, and many more adventures. He was always full of spirit, energy, and humor. He was a great role model to me. As he is now reunited with his beloved Tillie, may his memory be a blessing to us.

I loved Nick -what a wonderful man! A great friend. It was a blessing to have known him.

I've known Nick since the 1970's and I can comfortably say that he never changed. Always there...a kind of
zestfulness and affection. Such a lovely man.

Mr. Medvid was always a delightful guy to spend time with. A couple of years ago I did a painting of some flowers for him that he had made into a postcard to send out to people and he got such a kick out of it. Such a sweet man, he will be missed by many

I had the privilege of being Nick’s hospice nurse. He had a twinkle in his eye till three days before he passed. A week before he passed he was calling for Tillie. He lit up like a Christmas Tree whenever Gwen called and on his August 31st 2022 when we celebrated his 98th birthday. He loved receiving reiki on his jaw and always tried to kiss my hands. He is missed by all the team members who cared for him. May he Soar in Splendor and have a joyous reunion with Tillie.

I met Nick and Tillie many years ago. I was a neighbor, friend and realtor. The moment I met Nick you could see the twinkle in his eyes.
His optimism and kindness was unique.
The glass was always half full. May he be united with Tillie and be a blessing. He was
The definition of a mensch.

Nicholas's Obituary

Nicholas Medvid passed away peacefully on February 12, 2023, at the age of 98, in Burlington, Massachusetts.

Nick was born on August 31, 1924 to Frank and Anna Medvid in Detroit, Michigan. Both his parents immigrated from the Ukraine. He spent most of his childhood on Clippert Street on the west side of Detroit. He attended Cass Tech High School, went on to complete two years at the University of California Los Angeles and finished his bachelor’s degree at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

In 1951, Nick married Tillie Turecky and had two daughters, Gwen and Patricia. They lived in Berkley, Michigan until 1963, when they relocated to Los Angeles, California. Nick and Tillie raised their children on Franklin Avenue where many happy memories were created over the next 50 years.  In 2017 they relocated to Burlington, Massachusetts to spend time closer to family.

Nick was actively involved in his community, the Ukrainian Catholic Church, and city and state politics. He was an eloquent speaker, avid reader and correspondent, and had an infectious smile which he shared generously. He was devoted to his wife Tillie with whom he shared 69 years, his children Gwen & Robert, Patricia & Gerald, his grandchildren Lindsay, Lara, Daniel, Matthew and Eve, and his 3 month old great granddaughter Matilda who he met and held tenderly in January.

Nick will be remembered as kind, welcoming, generous with his time, and a man who truly brought joy to those around him.
