Nicholas's Obituary

ADAMS, NY – Nicholas J. “Nick” Monaghan, 14, passed away on December 20, 2025, at home following a medical emergency.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and again from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m., with Pastor Kurt Gehrke officiating. A celebration-of-life gathering will follow the service at the Westview Lodge in Henderson.

Nicholas was born in Watertown on February 3, 2011, the beloved son of Andrew and Rebecca Monaghan. He was a ninth-grade student at Belleville Henderson School, where he was a member of the FFA and had been involved in trapshooting for several years, a sport he truly cherished. He also worked part-time for Hylight Farm in Smithville.

A quiet soul, Nicholas found his loudest joy outdoors. He could often be found driving around the yard or searching for his next adventure. A lover of anything with an engine, he intended to attend the BOCES program for small engines next year. Nicholas also enjoyed music, especially Morgan Wallen, as well as fishing and snowmobiling. His love of the outdoors was matched only by his deep devotion to his family, whom he loved fiercely.

For several years, Nicholas volunteered for the Smithville Fire Department with his father. He was recently voted in as an honorary member.

Survivors include his parents, Andrew and Rebecca Monaghan of Adams; his sister, Madisyn Monaghan; his grandparents, Nancy Paul (Jason Williams), Jeffery S. Youngs (Cheryl Bigelow), and Pamela and James Stewart; his aunts and uncles, Shelby Farman, Jeffery and Brian Corbett-Youngs, Donald Monaghan, Adam Monaghan, Megan Monaghan, Kirstin Feldman, and Deana Monaghan, along with many additional aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his maternal great-grandparents, Carol Idzenga and Lynn and Norma Youngs.

Nicholas was predeceased by his grandfather, Donald Monaghan, and his great-grandfather, Ira Idzenga.

Nick’s family invites everyone to wear colors (especially his favorites, blue and red) to his services, in honor of his love for color.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Nicholas’ honor may be made to the Smithville Fire Department, 13727 Co. Rte. 63, Adams, NY 13605.

Arrangements are with Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home. Condolences may be left online at www.carpenterstoodley.com.
