Fred and I were so sad to hear of Nila's passing - she was a wonderful special lady - she will be missed - praying for comfort for the family -

I first met Nila while employed with the Brunswick Sugar Grove plant.
What a warm caring person she was, in later years she became close friends
with some of my Family and I saw her more often on visits.
Always a nice smile and warn hello.
There are needs in this country for the type of Blessings and friendship Nila displayed.

Nila was a wonderful person. She always same to make me feel comfortable when I was around here with her humor and her pleasant demeanor. She will be missed by the ones left behind here on Earth but will be gladly welcome in the heavens above. My prayers go out to the family.

Knowing Nila was a blessing. Nila, an angelic sole. Prayers for her family and friends. Nila left a foot print on my heart. She sure will be missed.

Sugar Grove, VA

Nila Ashlin, age 77, departed her earthly home in Sugar Grove, VA, to awaken in Heaven on Sunday, December 8, 2024.

Nila was born in Marion, VA, to the late Grover Roberts and Pearl Mitchell Roberts. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 39 years, Richard “Dick” Ashlin, as well as a dear friend, David Dishner, who brought her joy in her later years.

A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Nila possessed a warm and caring heart, along with a wonderful sense of humor that made everyone—whether strangers or loved ones—feel instantly at ease. Her family was her greatest treasure.

Nila was a member of Wharf Hill United Methodist Church and worked for several years at Barker’s Quick Stop in Marion.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Dan Woods of Sugar Grove; son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Robin Ashlin of Sugar Grove, VA; granddaughters, Sarah (Chris) Buckingham and Whitney (Keith) Richardson; grandsons, Isaac Ashlin and Luke Ashlin; step-grandchildren, Frankie Coleman and Aaron Ferguson; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Brooke, Lexi, Hannah, and Garrett; brothers, Pete Roberts of Bandy, VA, and Robin Roberts of Bandy, VA; sisters, Donna Wilburn of Chesterfield, VA, Inis Ashlin of Sugar Grove, VA, and Barbara Testerman of Flat Ridge, VA; and a special friend she and her family considered part of the family, Tammy (Don) Barker of Groseclose, VA. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her faithful dog, Annie.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Wharf Hill United Methodist Church in Sugar Grove, with Reverend Mike Dixon officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00–7:00 PM prior to the service. Graveside services will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday at Burton’s Chapel Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet at the church at 10:15 AM for the funeral procession to the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley’s Funeral Home is serving the Ashlin family.
