What a beautiful life Uncle Norbert lived. He was forever kind to me and interested in engaging in conversation when I visited J-town. I have fond memories and find my heart heavy with sadness as I think of this loss. Love, prayers, and peace to all the Hummels as they mourn and celebrate his life.

Norbert Daniel "Coach" Hummel, Jr., age 86, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Nazareth Home.He was born March 29, 1930 in Louisville. He was a former teacher and football and baseball coach and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He attended St. Benedict grade school, Flaget High School and St. Joseph College at Rensselaer. He earned a master's degree in History and Education from Indiana University. He taught at Flaget, Male, Central, Shawnee, Seneca and Bishop David schools. He also operated a longstanding Christmas tree lot and was an avid gardener. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert Daniel Hummel, Sr. and Margaret Maloney Hummel; four sisters, Sr. Mary Jane Hummel SL, Sr. Margaret Ann Hummel SL, Rose Marie Thomas (Rudy) and Sr. Ellen Hummel MMS; one sister-in-law, Martha Bickett.Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jane Carroll Bickett Hummel; one sister, Sr. Patricia Hummel SL; eight children, Norbert Hummel III (Penny), Ann Hummel, Ellen Grisanti (Dominic), Mary Boone (Joseph), David Hummel (Janice), John Hummel (Tina), Sarah Corrigan (Dan) and Joe Hummel (Jennifer); 16 grandchildren, Bert Hummel, Katie Grisanti, Kelly Hummel, Maggie Grisanti, Natalie Hummel, Nicholas Hummel, Emily Hummel, Matthew Hummel, Julianne Hummel, Hannah Boone, David Hummel, Jack Hummel, Ellie Hummel, Daniel Hummel, Caroline Hummel and Charlie Hummel.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Saint Edward Catholic Church, 9608 Sue Helen Drive, Louisville, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.
