Alan's Obituary

In Loving Memory of Alan Frank TerplanMarch 2, 1952 - April 23, 2025Alan Frank Terplan, born on March 2, 1952, to Frank and Charlotte Terplan (née Wendlandt), passed away on April 23, 2025, with his family by his side. He was 73 years old.A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Alan is survived by his beloved wife, Trudy Terplan; his cherished (step)children Brian (Lissett) Houck, Lucas Altemose, and Bianca (Stephen) Caruso; and four adored grandchildren-Hillary (Daniel O'Donnell) Houck, Hailley (Alexander) Builes, Harley Houck, and Sloane Caruso. Alan also had the joy of knowing his great-grandson, Mason O'Donnell. He is also survived by his cousin, Linda Nuzzo, his only close extended relative. His heart was capable of building a large family through love rather than blood.Alan dedicated much of his working life to Frank J. Terplan and Son, the paper supply business he ran alongside his father. The bond between Alan and his dad was deep and enduring, and he often spoke fondly of their morning commutes together-simple moments that meant the world to him.He was always wore a nice smile, and his warmth and good humor touched everyone who knew him. In his younger years, Alan was an amazing skier-fearless on the slopes and full of energy. He also loved riding his motorcycle and especially enjoyed riding through the scenic mountain roads of North Carolina. After retiring early, Alan relocated to Florida where he fully embraced the joys of retirement. Whether he was boating, fishing, hunting, or simply enjoying a milkshake on a warm afternoon, Alan found peace and purpose in the outdoors. He also was into fireworks-he really liked blowing them up. Alan was a faithful and active member of the Manasota Beach Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, where he served as an elder. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and unwavering support to those around him. Though his extended family was small, Alan embraced his "bonus family" wholeheartedly, offering them the same love, protection, and encouragement he gave to all those he held dear.Alan was a giving and charitable person, he volunteered his time to teach others the Bible, shared in the building of the world headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses and participated in disaster relief efforts.Alan had unwavering faith that his God, Jehovah, will resurrect him to life on earth, where he can be reunited with his family and enjoy life to the fullest-without fear of loss, pain, or sorrow ever again. That hope gave him peace, strength, and joy throughout his life and into his final days.Alan will be missed in a way that is difficult to express. The world has lost not just a good man, but a great one.
