Buster, Marcella and family, We are very saddened to hear about Jr's passing. He was near and dear to our family and was a frequent visitor to my mother's family homestead, usually (and often) when 'Aunt Maryan' called him. He had an easy smile and is fondly remembered.

Grace - I am so sorry to the passing of JR. I remember how he enjoyed the choir singing Christmas carols to him. I am sure he will be missed, by you and his cats.

Oliver's Obituary

Oliver Cromwell Mowery, Jr., age 93 of Upper Tract, WV, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Sentara RMH in Harrisonburg, VA. He was born in Franklin, WV on October 3, 1921, the son of the late Oliver Cromwell Mowery, Sr. and the late Gertrude (Propst) Mowery. He was married to Lucy Mattox Westfall who survives in Franklin. Mr. Mowery had attended Smucker School and he retired from WV Department of Highways as a Truck Driver. He was a member of the American Legion #78, VFW #6454, and Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church. Oliver was a Veteran of the US Army and served during WW II and was the recipient of a Purple Heart.Mr. Mowery is survived by: a daughter, Marcella Sinnett and husband Danny of Franklin; a son, Oliver C. Mowery III of Franklin; a sister, Grace Mowery of Upper Tract, WV; 5 grandchildren, Melina Mason and husband Christopher, Brian Mowery and wife Adrian, Agenia Jordan and husband Jeremiah, Derek Mowery and wife Marissa, Vanessa Mowery; 7 great-grandchildren, Landan Mason, Brantley Mowery, Rhett Mowery, Faith Jordan, Blake Jordan, Riley Mowery, and Trace Mowery. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: 2 brothers, Vernon L. and Howard Clark Mowery; and a sister, Rebecca Kimble.Mr. Mowery's family will receive friends on Saturday, noon until 2:00 PM at Christ Central Community Church in Upper Tract, with funeral services at 2:00 PM with Pastor Sam Harper and Pastor Terry Vargo officiating. Interment will be in Cherry Hill Cemetery in Upper Tract with Military Graveside services conducted by the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard.
