Not sure what to say?

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Dear Doreena, My deepest condolences on the loss of your Dad. I graduated high school with your Mom and Dad. Your Dad sat behind me in English class and was always too busy with activities to do his homework. He would rush into class just before our teacher arrived and ask me to copy my work, until one day he copied my work and after class gave me the devil for getting some items wrong! I told him he had to do his own work from then on! He was such a character and had a beautiful smile. ...

Doreena and family, I am sorry to hear of your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Oren's Obituary

Chaumont, NY: Oren Granroth Olsen, 78, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Samaritan Keep Home, where he had resided since 2019.

Oren was born on April 28, 1947, in Longview, Washington, as the son of the late Otto Gotlieb and Helen Vilora (Granroth) Olsen. In 1959, his family relocated to Massena, NY. There, he married his high school sweetheart, Darlina M. Morin, on August 5, 1967, and they remained together until 1971. He later moved to California, living in the San Fernando Valley, Santa Monica, Malibu, Ventura, and Escondido until 2002, when he moved to Chaumont, NY, to be with his daughter and her family.

Oren had a dynamic background, including service in the United States Air Force, selling insurance, and serving as Vice President for Kenco Construction for many years. He was most proud of working with a disabled veterans’ skiing program at a resort in Lake Tahoe.

Oren was an avid skier and spent many years as an instructor in Lake Tahoe. He also enjoyed his classic 1965 Chris Craft wooden boat named “Black Tie”, as well as sailing and golfing, activities he often shared with his grandsons.

Oren had a great passion for Corvettes and once drove his 1985 Corvette across the country on US Route 66.

Oren’s love for his daughter, Dorena, and two grandsons, Joshua and Matthew, could not be measured. One of his greatest gifts to them was his sense of humor and wisdom.

Oren is survived by his older brother, Navis J. (California), his daughter, Dorena L. (Mark) Kimball of Chaumont, his grandson Joshua M. (Kelsey) Kimball of Adams, and Matthew J. (Natalya) Kimball of Syracuse.

Oren’s family would like to thank the staff at Samaritan Keep Home for putting up with his unrelenting sarcasm and making sure he had plenty of ice cream.

There will be no services. A Celebration of Life will occur at a later date. Donations in his name can be made to the Lyme Food Pantry, PO Box 176, Chaumont, NY 13622.

Arrangements are with Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Inc. and condolences may be left online at www.reedbenoit.com.
