Oscar's Obituary

Oscar Samora Cadena was born on January 4, 1969, in San Antonio, Texas, to Manuel and Victoria Cadena Sr. He passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the age of 57, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. Heaven gained another angel.

Oscar began working at a young age, starting at just 17 years old. During his adolescence, he worked alongside his father and later spent many years at Morningside Meadows, where he proudly built a career in maintenance. While there, he earned his HVAC certification as well as electrical certification, skills that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication. Oscar later worked at Villa de San Antonio, where he remained until retiring in 2017 due to a work-related injury.

Oscar was a true sports lover. The San Antonio Spurs were his favorite team, and he was also a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan until the team traded Micah Parsons, which he never quite forgave. One of his favorite ongoing family debates was the Cowboys versus Green Bay rivalry. In the household, Oscar was lovingly known as “the Grinch,” a nickname that only added to his charm.

He loved to BBQ, spend spring breaks in Port Aransas, and make memories with his daughter Briana and his grandsons. Oscar also cherished traveling to Austin to spend time with his fiancée Helen and her family.

Oscar will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his silly sense of humor, his habit of rarely wearing a shirt, and his deep love for family time and gatherings. He was an amazing father and stepfather who never saw his stepchildren as anything other than his own.

Oscar is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Victoria Cadena Sr.; his sisters Dolores Cadena and Mary Cadena; his sister Beatrice Castillo; his brother Manuel Cadena III; his niece Rowena Arsate; his nephews Ruben Valverde and Victor Cadena Jr.; and his sister-in-law Esther Cadena.

He is survived by his brothers Danny S. Cadena, David Cadena (Diane), and Victor Cadena (Nicole); his sisters Liz Avila, Dora Hernandez, Concha Niño (Rudy), and Melinda Cadena; his children Victoria Cadena (Guadalupe), Samantha Cadena, Oscar Cadena Jr., and Briana Cadena; his fiancée Helen Tovar; his grandchildren Gabriel Tovar and Lorenzo Hernandez; his beloved pets Rocky, Bella, and his son Charles (“Chucky”); and numerous generations of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Please join us as we gather to honor Oscar in tribute, prayer, and love.
