Oscar David Martinez was born on August 9, 1950, in Laredo, Texas. He went home to be with our Lord on March 19, 2026, at his home in Fischer, Texas.He was the second of seven children born to Andres and Olga Martinez. At a young age, Oscar stepped into the role of big brother after the loss of his older brother, Johnny, in the Vietnam War. From that moment on, he made it his mission to look after his siblings, always ensuring they were safe and cared for. He was known to “take care of business” when needed—a reflection of his protective spirit and deep love for his family.Oscar was also known for his competitive nature. In his younger years, he was a skilled and accomplished bowler. Later in life, he discovered a passion for golf, which quickly became one of his greatest joys.He proudly served in the Army National Guard and worked tirelessly for many years in various areas of the retail industry. Oscar eventually became the owner of a FedEx route in New Braunfels, Texas, from which he retired. It was during his working years that he met and fell in love with his wife of 20 years, Sharon.Oscar also served as a marshal at Vaaler Creek Golf Club in Blanco, Texas—a role that came with the cherished perk of one free round of golf each week, though it often turned into more. Living a peaceful country life with Sharon, his beloved pomchi, Huggy, and the many creatures that surrounded their home brought him immense happiness. He found simple joy in morning coffee on the porch swing, watching birds gather at the feeders and squirrels chase one another—moments that filled his days with laughter and contentment.Some knew him as Oscar, others as David. The name Oscar means “God’s spear” or “champion warrior,” while David means “beloved of God.” Together, these names perfectly reflected the man we knew and loved—a protector, a fighter, and a deeply cherished soul.Rest in peace, Oscar David.
