Othnel's Obituary

Othnel “Dewayne” Meece, age 79, born December 15, 1945 to Othnel and Armelda Meece passed from this life on July 18, 2025 while surrounded by his family in his home. He was of the Baptist faith and regularly attended Colo Baptist Church until his Parkinson’s made attendance too difficult. Dewayne worked at Crane Plumbing for 37 years.  He was a farmer and fox hunter.  

Dewayne was preceded in death by his wife Kay Watson Meece whom he married on July 21, 1972, son Shannon Lee Meece, parents Othnel and Armelda Dykes Meece, in laws Edward and Lois Meece, and siblings Ivan Lee and Janice Dean along with many other friends and family.

Dewayne is survived by his children Camie Meece (Michael), Wayne Meece (Poppy) and Angela Chaney (Dale), grandchildren Jason Meece, Kari Taylor (Jessie), Cassie Dalton (Harley), Bailey Dunham (Kevin), Alesha York (Tristen), Matthew Meece (Kortney), Adriana Meece, Adessa Meece, Rique Meece, Kaylyn Chaney (Tyler Roberts), Curtiss Chaney, Jesse Meece, Melissa Bacon (Brett), 18 living great grandchildren, 3 sisters Judy Mounce (Jackie), Rosetta Miller, and Melissa Richardson and several brother in laws and sister in laws. He leaves behind many family members and friends who will miss his sense of humor, smile, and the ability to stretch a dollar.  “Buy that fifty cent part” was one of his last words of advice.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to their Hospice team and Aunt Esther Watson for the care provided to Dewayne.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

His funeral service will follow on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. David Harmon officiating.  Burial will be at Wesley’s Chapel Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Curtiss Chaney, Matthew Meece, Rique Meece, Kevin Dunham, Brett Bacon, Tristen York, Jason Meece and Harley Dalton.  His honorary pallbearer will be Jesse W. Meece.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or The Michael J. Fox Foundation.
