Pastor Gary's Obituary

Pastor Gary Owen Tucker

Pastor Gary Owen Tucker, 74, of Crawfordville, passed away Friday, October 31, 2025 after an extended illness.

Born on June 30, 1951 in Moultrie, Georgia, Gary was the son of the late Clifton Ennis & Jannie Eloys Murphy Tucker. His family relocated to Orlando, FL when he was five years old. He met the love of his life in church shortly after arriving. They grew up in church together and began dating high school. After five years, he married Sara Diane Rowe on December 2, 1972, and they began a life that would become full with service to the Lord, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Gary was called to preach and began preaching at the young age of 16. He faithfully served the Lord and numerous churches for over 50 years as a Music Director, Youth Pastor, and Pastor. As a beloved pastor to so many, his impact reached farther than we’ll ever know this side of Heaven. While his declining health forced him to early retirement from the ministry, he never ceased continuing to minister to his family and medical teams. His whole life was centered around trusting and serving the Lord. If you knew him, you know one of his heart’s greatest desires was to share the gift of salvation with everyone.

Passionately preaching the word was his greatest gift, but he was also a man of many other talents and gifts. The ones he’s most remembered for are his ability to tear up some keys on the piano, for which he was classically trained, singing harmony, and brightening any room with that infectious smile and humor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Clifton Darrell Tucker, Dennis Henry Tucker, and Sidney Lamar Tucker; in-laws, Addis & Donna Rowe; and daughter-in-law, Leah Lorenzo Tucker.

Survivors include his loving wife of almost 53 years, Diane Tucker of Crawfordville; children, Daniel Tucker of Upland, IN, and Angela Vierday, Tim Tucker, Bryan Tucker, Heather (Daniel) Hughes, all of Crawfordville; grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Leroy) Rasberry of Tallahassee, Haley (John) Davis of Ocala, Caden Vierday and Chloe Tucker, both of Crawfordville, Elijah Tucker of Upland, IN, Owen Vierday of Crawfordville, Joshua Tucker of Upland, IN, Mason Hughes, Bailey Tucker, Addy Hughes, all of Crawfordville, Zivah Tucker of Upland, IN, and Wyatt Hughes of Crawfordville, great granddaughter, Charlotte Rose Davis of Ocala, and great grandson, John Henry “Hank” Davis who is due any day; sister, Jane Tucker Thompson of West Monroe, LA; and sisters-in-law, Beverly Tucker of Toccoa, GA, Sandy (John) Stone of High Point, NC, Lisa Rowe Stepp of Louisville, KY,  and Michelle Shaver of Orlando; brother-in-law, Mark Rowe of Panama City; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family.

He was laid to rest on Sunday, November 2, 2025, in a private family graveside service at Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church No. 2 Cemetery in Crawfordville.

The family would like to give their heartfelt thanks to Vann Scott and all of the staff at GRACE Funeral & Cremation Service for the exceptional care they have extended to all of us
