Patrick's Obituary

PATRICK CHARLES FITZPATRICK “Paddy”, passed away on November 19, 2025 in Leesburg, Virginia. He was born June 8, 1939 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Irish immigrants Joseph and Hannah (McKeown) FitzPatrick. The youngest of six, he is preceded in death by his siblings Joseph (Patricia Sommerkamp), Brigid, Jack (Doris Bachman), Alice (Carl) and Sally.

Growing up just outside of New York city, Paddy attended Regis High School, where he was Captain of the basketball team. He went on to attend and graduate from the Naval Academy in 1961, where he won two consecutive National Championships as a lacrosse player. After serving in the Navy aboard a nuclear submarine (much like his brother “Captain” Joe), with a rank of Lieutenant Commander, Paddy went on to graduate from the Wharton School of Business. While attending graduate school, he married Marion Lynn Begley, of Swathmore, PA. His long and successful career brought him, along with his young family, to different locales on the globe, including Dublin, Ireland and Nairobi, Kenya. After residing briefly in Chicago, Il., and Westport, Conn., Paddy and family eventually settled in Northern VA.

Paddy was passionate in all aspects of his life. During his impressive career, he was Chief Financial Officer for companies including the First National Bank of Chicago, PRC and Dyncorp International. An avid basketball and tennis player, golfer, and even the oldest member of Navy’s  “Old Goats” reunion lacrosse team in 2000, Paddy was a lifelong athlete. When it wasn’t actually himself on the court or field, he was busy coaching for his childrens’ youth basketball and lacrosse teams. He loved watching college sports, particularly his beloved Navy, and was especially fond of March Madness basketball. He is remembered by many for his love of a good time and robust sense of humor.

Paddy was a beloved father to Brendan, Rory (Catherine Laura), and Conor (Emily Ann) FitzPatrick. He is remembered with love by his grandchildren: Owen, Morgan, Caden, Bodhi and Asher. He is also remembered by innumerable nieces and nephews, both grand and great.

Services will be held on Friday, December 19th, 10 A.M., at Our Lady of Hope, 46639 Algonkian Pkwy, Sterling, VA 20165. A Celebration of life will follow.

Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, VA is serving the family.
