Patsy's Obituary

Patsy Gray Benson Hines, age 83, of Selma passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018.  Born in Johnston County on November 11, 1934, she was the daughter of the late James Wellons and Lela Strickland Benson.  She was also preceded in death by her sister Jimmie Benson Howell of Kinston. 

Pat was an active and beloved lifelong member of Princeton Baptist Church.  Through the various capacities she served, including Sunday School Teacher and Deacon, she demonstrated her passionate devotion to Christ.  She worked at Kemp Furniture Company in Goldsboro for 38 years and later worked at the Day By Day Treatment Center in Selma, where she also served on the Board of Directors. Pat was a talented seamstress, quilter and author.  She began writing her memoirs in 2003 as a gift to her grandchildren and completed her book in February of 2018.  Pat was a beautiful, courageous soul with a loving spirit, who touched the lives of everyone she met.

Pat and her husband, Thomas E. Hines were married for 63 years and were blessed with two children, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas; daughter Terri Hines Stutts and husband Keith of Wilson, son James Thomas Hines and wife Sylvia of Selma; sister Vicki Benson Lassiter and husband Jim of Selma; grandchildren, Callie Hines Stutts, Cullen Benson Stutts and fiance' Amy Bridgeman, Caroline Hines Barefoot and husband Jared Barefoot, Caitlyn Grey Hines and fiancé Matthew Corbett, and Chandler Lela Hines; great grandchildren, Elliott James Barefoot and Maxton Asher Corbett.  She is also survived by nieces and nephews Simone Howell Pate, Kim Howell Romagna, Tony Howell, Leigh Lassiter and Beth Lassiter Greene.

 Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 3, at 3:00 PM in the Princeton Baptist Church with Rev. Dwayne Batten officiating.  Burial will follow in the Aycock Cemetery near her home.  The family will receive friends at the church fellowship hall from 2-3 Thursday, prior to the service.
