Not sure what to say?

Robin and the Denney family,
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your love one. My thoughts and prayers are with you today and always.
Sandra Powell

I was one of Paul's many friends from Sandwich. We were fortunate to grow up together in a small town. We have a great group of friends and Paul's memory will live on with all of us.
I am truly sorry for your loss.

Paul was a friend at Sandwich High School and I came to appreciate his delightful sense of humor as a member of the golf team. He was loved by his classmates and his promise as a young man was fulfilled in his life. Please accept my condolences on your loss.

May Paul's light continue to shine through those who knew and loved him. With Sympathy,

I am a friend of Paul's sister, Louann. I want to express my condolences to you, Robin, knowing you will miss Paul very much. I appreciated reading his obituary just now and. think he was as much a fine Christian as Louann is. I know that his sweet aroma will be missed by many.

Robin, my heart breaks to hear of your loss. It was clear that Paul was the love and light of your life. Reflect on your blessings and remember the good times. I wish you well and know that the good Lord and Paul are looking out for you and your family from heaven.

Paul was a devout Christian and an exceptionally nice person. Our deepest sympathy to Robin and their children.

Bob and Janice Ewers

Any of us who grew up in the small town of Sandwich Massachusetts remember Paul fondly. Paul will always be "one of us" and we will not forget him. Our sincere sympathy to his entire family for their tremendous loss..(The members of the SHS Class of 1975)

Just wanted to say how sorry I am for this loss. I have great memories of spending days at the Country Acres Motel playing with Louann and attending 4H meetings. My condolences to the Denney family on your incredible loss.

Obituary

Paul's Obituary

In the early morning of Thursday, February 16, 2017, Paul Joseph Denney Jr., 59, of Roanoke, Va., was welcomed into the home of his Heavenly Father. In the ultimate moments of Paul’s fight against Glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor, he was surrounded by his loving family and was comforted by the hands of his wife.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Allison Denney.

Left to illuminate our world with Paul’s memory is his wife of 21 years, Robin Siner Denney of Roanoke; his sons, Christopher Denney of Roanoke, Benjamin Caldwell (Megan) of Roanoke, and Corey Miles of Lynchburg; his parents, Paul Sr. and Ann Denney of Bonita Springs, Fla.; his sisters, Louann Bertran (Randy) of Raleigh, N.C., and Elaine Simon of Atlanta, Ga.; one nephew and one niece, Stephen and Kirsten Simon of Atlanta, Ga. Paul was the proud grandfather of six, Gabriel, Joey, Connor, Caleb and Adaline Denney, and Emerson Grace Caldwell.

Born on August 12, 1957, in Pittsburgh, Pa., Paul was an alumnus of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a veteran of the United States Army. He spent his childhood on Cape Cod, where he was the captain of his high school golf team. Upon his move to the Roanoke Valley, Paul met his best friend and wife, Robin, in 1995 at the Roanoke Civic Center and the two have been inseparable ever since.

He was a Sunday School teacher and a deacon of Grandin Court Baptist Church, an employee of the VA Medical Center in Salem, and an avid dog lover. His final days were made more enjoyable by Bailey, his Shih Tzu, who never left his side.

Paul’s ministry shown through in his natural tendency to find the humor in any situation. Whether it be with his legendary Halloween costumes or his part-time lawn service business, which was really more of a hobby, Paul’s joy was infectious in every life he touched. Besides God and his family, he loved cheering for the New England Patriots, watching PGA Tour golf, and exploring the world with his wife on any one of their 17 cruises together.

A 2 p.m. celebration of Paul’s life will be officiated by Dr. Kevin Meadows at Grandin Court Baptist Church on Saturday, February 25, 2017, and a reception will immediately follow that celebration in the Ministry Activity Center of the church.

The family would like to thank everyone for the love and support that has poured in from so many people and in so many ways over the last few months.

In lieu of flowers, they ask that each of you pack a picnic, venture out to a favorite spot that showcases God’s creation, enjoy some time with the people whom you hold very dear, and donate a bag of dog food to your local ASPCA shelter afterwards.

Arrangements by Oakey’s South Chapel. Online condolences may be made at www.oakeys.com.
