Perry "Doug"'s Obituary

Perry “Doug” Sutphin, 74, of Keyport passed away peacefully, at home on Thursday, September 11, 2025.  Perry was born on May 27, 1951, in Laurel Fork, Virginia, where he spent his younger years. He moved to Keyport, New Jersey where he graduated from Keyport High School in 1969. While living in Keyport, he met the love of his life, Karen (Bishop) Sutphin and they later married on May 6, 1977. They remained in Keyport, where together they raised their family.  Perry served honorably in the National Guard and retired after 21 years.  He also retired after 42 enjoyable years, from the United States Postal Service, where he worked as a mail carrier, serving the Matawan area until 2011.  When Perry wasn’t working, he liked spending time fishing, watching NASCAR and cheering on his Miami Dolphins and New York Yankees. He also was a beloved coach and mentor for various sports teams including youth football, baseball and basketball. 

He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Raymond and Kathleen (Bowman) Sutphin. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Karen (Bishop) Sutphin, his cherished children, Scott Sutphin and his wife, Dawnmarie of Keyport, New Jersey, Stacy Peperoni and her husband Ron of Keyport, New Jersey and Stephanie Prevost and her husband Joseph of Keyport, New Jersey, his caring sister, Jan Puckett and her husband Dan of Laurel Fork, Virginia and his adoring grandchildren, Ty, Danica, Ayla, Aubree, Lacey and Lorelei.  Perry was a devoted, son, husband, father, brother and grandfather.  He will be greatly missed, always loved and never forgotten.  

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, September 18th, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00PM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey   07730. A graveside service with burial will follow on Saturday, September 20th, at 11:00 AM at the Turner Cemetery in Laurel Fork, Virginia with Elder Gleason Worrell officiating.   Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel is serving the family .
