Peter Jay Garthe age 66 of Fraser died August 25, 2020 at home with his family around. He was born in Traverse City to Harry and Fern Garthe. He graduated from Traverse City High School Class of 1972. Peter served in the United States Coast Guard for six years. While in the Coast Guard he met Donna Hobson and they were married in 1976.
Peter was a machinist for 26 years much of that time at Tratech Industries until they closed. He went back to school an earned and Associates Degree. Peter worked in the heating and cooling business until health forced his retirement.
He is survived by his wife Donna Garthe, a son Todd (Stacey) Garthe and a daughter Jennifer (Jason) Williams, 8 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 3 sisters Sue (Jeff) Butwell, Cathy Ludwig, and twin sister Margaret “Peggy” Garthe.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Fern Garthe, stepmother Betty and a sister Kiki Anderson.
Cremation arrangements by Carman Funeral Home. A memorial service with military honors will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday September 10, 2020.
