Not sure what to say?

I went lo school with Pete and played football with him. Now he weighed around 195 and I was maybe 160 wringing wet. For some reason the coaches always lined me up with Pete for tackle practice. Needless to say I came out on the short end of that stick. Pete was a superb athlete and an even better person. God bless him and keep him safe. Greg Faherty

I met Pete at the USMC 38th Officer Candidate Class in Quantico that started in October 1965 and led to commissionning in December 1965. We were in the same platoon C-2. That is the only time that I had contact with him. Even though I to went to Pensacola flight training, became a helicopter pilot and flew in Vietnam. Pete was a standout leader in officer training. He was exceptional in all the physical training scores that the Marines are reknown for. Pete's phyical size and striking...

Pete was a wonder man who really made a difference in this world and our St Joseph Parish Community. I had the pleasure of hosting a Lenten Bible Study many years ago with Pete & Janie as well as serving as Eucharistic Minister. He was a wealth of knowledge and admired the care he provided during Janie's decline. They are reunited know in their heavenly home. He will be missed.....kind words, knowledge / obedience to The Lord and of course some of his "wise cracks" to keep us on our toes. I...

Mr. Knese will always be remembered with a smile as a kind spirit and caring soul. He was a loving father and a devoted husband, always leading his family with positivity and a wonderful sense of humor. I will forever cherish the memories of my high school days when I felt welcomed with open arms in their home. It is with a heavy heart that I learn of his passing, but I find comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with the love of his life and at peace in eternal rest.

Mike and I have known Pete since we were children growing up in Northwoods. Pete's mother, Margaret, and Mike's mother, Lorraine, were best friends; so great was their friendship that their children came to know one another more as siblings than neighbors. I too was a neighbor but not "down the block (Reder Avenue)!" Pete's younger brother, Luke, and I were in the same Ascension class. Margaret followed my in-laws by moving to Fox Creek Estates, Manchester MO, in the late 1960's; Margaret...

Eternal Rest grant to Pete, oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, through the mercy of God, rest in peace!

Pete and Janie were incredibly good to me over the years. While working in the parish office in high school (circa 2009), I met them coming in for a meeting. And after getting to chat for a while, they asked if I could be a dog-sitter for Bailey :) When I entered the seminary after high school, they were generous supporters of my education and...

Peter's Obituary

Peter Gordon Knese passed away on February 21, 2025

Beloved husband of the late Janet Knese, father of Peter Gordon Knese II (Judith), Mary Brittany Drew (Alex), grandfather of Madison Shay Knese, brother of Paul (Judy), uncle of Lisa Treiber, James Knese, Michael Knese, Mark Knese, Kendall Rabun, Matthew Scully, Patrick Scully, Taylor Dobson, Deneil Crume, David Dobson, Caroline Hartford, Benjamin Dobson, and Griffin Dobson, dear friend to many.

He is predeceased by his parents Dr. Luke A. Knese and Margaret M. Knese (nee Brey), brother Luke A. Knese, Jr., and wife Janet D. Knese (nee Dobson).

Pete was born April 18th, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri. He grew up attending Ascension Parish in Normandy. He enjoyed taking part in the annual soap box derby, trips to the family farm, and participating in boy scouts. He attended Chaminade High School where he excelled in sports; playing football, basketball, and running track. Not surprisingly, he was named king of the “Football Dance” his senior year. After graduating high school Pete attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio where he enrolled as a Marianist Brother.

Upon obtaining his degree he decided instead to pursue a life on the outside of the walls. He was accepted into the Marine Corps and into OCS in 1965. As an officer he piloted Sea Knight helicopters in Vietnam, flying over 900 missions. Pete rose to the rank of Captain and earned various medals and awards along the way.

While on break from flight school in Pensacola he met his future wife Janie on the beach in Panama City. They married in April 1967. Peter II was born three years later and six years later Mary Brittany came along.

After being honorably discharged from the Marines, Pete went on to become a special agent for the F.B.I. He enjoyed a long career as an agent working in field offices in Charlotte, Louisville, Washington D.C., and St. Louis. He served on the SWAT team, was a firearms instructor at Quantico, worked undercover operations, piloted surveillance assignments and at times transported official personnel.

When retirement arrived, Pete had more time to spend on his many hobbies including, hunting, fishing, shooting at the gun range, golfing, hanging out with his golden retriever Bailey, being a grandfather to Madison, and vacationing in Perdido Key with dear friends. Despite his background Pete had a gentle soul. He was always available to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed serving as a Eucharistic Minister for his parish, consistently volunteering to wash the chalices after mass. And when his wife’s MS progressed, he became her number one caretaker.

People like Pete don’t come along often. A very handsome, talented, strong, loyal, and loving man. He will be missed greatly by all that had the opportunity to know him.

Contributions may be made in Pete's honor to the Wounded Warrior Project or Toys for Tots.

Please join us to share memories and toast Pete at the Failte Room at Annie Gunn's in Chesterfield Valley, Friday, the 7th at 2 p.m.
