Peter A Rettenberger

Peter Rettenberger, of Rutherford, for the majority of his adult life, passed away on December 10, 2025. Born on April 26, 1964 to Alois Rettenberger and Maria Kempf Rettenberger, Peter grew up in Maywood NJ where he developed a strong sense of service and community, values first shaped as an Eagle Scout.

He graduated from Montclair State University, earning a B.A. in Economics with minors in Computer Science and German. His career included impactful roles such as Certification & Release Analyst in the software/IT industry, primarily at Computron Software, as well as years of service in emergency medical care, including work as an EMT with Hackensack University Medical Center, Rutherford’s, and Maywood’s volunteer EMS squads. 

Peter was a proud and devoted father to Jacob, Andrew, Hope, and Stefanie whom he loved deeply and were the pride of his life. He is also survived by his former spouse, Nancy, with whom he shared many years of family life with, along side two four legged friends Angel and Bella.

Known for his dedication to service, and commitment to helping others, Peter will be remembered for the impact he made both professionally but more importantly personally, by being a truly loving and caring father.

Funeral arrangements will be held at Macagna-Diffily-Onorato Funeral Home, 41 Ames Ave., Rutherford at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Saddle Brook. Visiting Tuesday December 16, 2025, 4 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Autism Awareness in his memory.
