Peter J. Riso, a lifelong resident of Pittsburg, CA, passed away peacefully at the age of 75. Born on April 9, 1949, to the late James and Rose (Rocco) Riso, Peter was the eldest of six children: Marietta, Phyllis, Natalie (Ralph), Gina, and James (Liza). His life was a symphony of love and talent.
Peter's early years were marked by a profound love for music, a passion that blossomed at the tender age of 5 when he first picked up the drumsticks. By 8, he was already making his mark, performing on The Lawrence Welk’s Top Tunes and Talent Show. This early achievement was just a glimpse into the many roles Peter would embrace throughout his life. Whether he was chatting with customers as a beverage salesman, inspiring students as a substitute teacher, or sharing his heart through music, Peter’s versatility was truly remarkable. His unwavering passion touched everyone he met, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Educated at St. Peter Martyr School and Pittsburg High School, Peter graduated in 1967 and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Art from San Jose State College in 1972. His academic journey was just one facet of a life rich in experiences and achievements.
Peter's gentle spirit and warm heart were the essence of who he was. His kindness and love touched so many lives of people who had the opportunity of knowing him. The outpouring of love and affection during his final days showed just how deeply he was cherished by his family and friends.
Peter is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Debbie (Scotto), and his cherished son, Giancarlo. Peter was preceded in death by his precious daughter, Vanessa, who passed away in 1994 at the age of 16. Along with his immediate family, he leaves behind loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and a host of long-time friends. His legacy is one of love, and an unwavering devotion to those he held dear. Peter’s memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.
As we reflect on Peter's life, we are reminded of the words, "A life lived in love will never be dull." His life was a vibrant tapestry, woven with threads of love, music, and an unyielding spirit. Peter's story is a testament to the transformative power of love, a beacon of light that will continue to shine in the hearts of those who knew him.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at 10:00am at Church of the Good Shepherd. A private committal service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, you may honor Peter’s memory by making a contribution to a charity of your choice.
