Great guy with a reserved sense of humor which was hilarious. He enjoyed people and often held cookouts for friends when he lived in the Boston area. He will be missed.

A Tribute from the Ruhe Family
As we gather our thoughts and memories in loving remembrance of our dear cousin Peter Vermilye, the Ruhe family finds comfort in reflecting upon the time spent together and the enduring bonds that connect us. Peter was not only a beloved cousin, but also a gentle soul whose warmth and kindness touched the hearts of all who knew him.

I was so sad to read this obit. Peter was a kind and thoughtful friend. I met him when I was in my early twenties. I still have the chef's hat that he gave me many birthdays ago when I had just started Tea Bags, a catering company that specialized in afternoon teas. I have not seen him much in the last few years, but will always remember him fondly. I send my deepest condolences to his siblings, and his nieces and nephews l.

I will always remember my brother’s lifelong affinity for plants—from his early years tending a garden at our parents’ home in Manchester, to his work at the garden center, and later at PlantWorks. I was fortunate to join him at the PlantWorks gala last fall and meet his colleagues, who so clearly admired both him and his remarkable gift for caring for plants. His love of nature shone through in his beautiful Somerville garden and throughout his apartment, each space touched by his care and...

Like Grammy, Pete also found joy appreciating life’s little pleasures, like gardening, skiing, and the perfect appetizer for cocktail hour. Through his love of gardening, he expressed his gentle and nurturing character, which I also saw in his deep,...

I knew Pete as a kind and funny uncle. Pete was always to the point and didn’t sugarcoat things. After he became the eldest Vermilye he led pithy yet hopeful grace at Vermilye family Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Pete took joy in curating and maintaining the beautiful gardens at the Vermilye family home. For his nieces and nephews he frequently had an assortment of Trader Joe’s delicacies or well maintained hand me down clothes to share. At the end of his life I virtually attended some...
