In Loving Memory of
Philip G. Allen, Jr. “Red”
July 23, 1959 – May 4, 2025
Philip G. Allen, Jr., affectionately known as “Red,” passed away on May 4, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, creativity, and connection. Born on July 23, 1959, Red made life more colorful for everyone blessed enough to know him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Dr. Shannon Allen; his sister, Paige Paul, and her husband, Ricky Paul; and his brother, Conly Allen, and his wife, Brenda Allen. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Dr. Philip Allen Sr. and Kay Allen. Red also leaves behind a large and loving circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and countless friends who were touched by him in so many ways.
Red was the epitome of a Renaissance man—an accomplished artist, educator, outdoorsman, storyteller, and athlete who lived life with boldness and authenticity. His vibrant personality was as striking as his artwork, and his presence had a way of lighting up any room. One of his favorite sayings, “This life ain’t no dress rehearsal,” was more than just a quote—it was the way he lived. Red had a rare and beautiful gift for making people laugh, feel seen, and completely at ease. Whether you were a lifelong friend or a stranger he just met, he made you feel like you belonged. Time never diminished his connections; with Red, relationships always picked up exactly where they left off.
A beloved class favorite, Red graduated from Lumberton High School in 1977. He went on to pursue higher education at Lamar University, where he proudly played football and remained a deeply connected alumnus throughout his life. Red took great pride in his time on the field and in the lifelong friendships it brought him. An avid outdoorsman, he found true joy in hunting, fishing, and especially golf—often joking that with initials like P.G.A., he was born for the game.
Red spent 21 years shaping lives in public education, serving as a beloved teacher, football and golf coach, mentor, and behavior interventionist. He brought compassion, charisma, and creativity to every role he held at Clifton J. Ozen Magnet High School, Paul Brown Learning Center, and Beaumont United High School. He was a natural educator—one who inspired confidence, built character, and always knew how to draw out a student’s best self.
In 2019, Red retired from education to fully embrace his lifelong passion for art. As a master artist who earned recognition across the country, he began his final creative venture, Americamo, which was a powerful expression of his unique vision. The signature Texas pattern boldly featured as a custom wrap on his truck served as a rolling testament to his imagination and pride.
Red's spirit lives on in the laughter he inspired, the stories he told, the art he created, and the many lives he forever changed. His legacy is one of joy, connection, and boundless creativity—and for those who knew him, his presence will always be felt.
