Phyllis Dargis, age 88 of Anoka, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12th, 2024. Phyllis was born on December 2nd, 1935, the third and youngest child of Kenneth and Maybelle Dahlgren (Kallenberger). She was a lifetime resident of Anoka. Phyllis was the school secretary first at Franklin Elementary and then at Ramsey School. She was an accomplished artist, especially watercolor painting. One of her favorite “art memories” was organizing the Birdsong Hollow painting group where she taught water color painting to several friends in her neighborhood. Phyllis’s other canvases were her gardens and her home. She had a gift for creating comfortable and beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces that she enjoyed sharing with family and friends. There was always something charming tucked into an unexpected corner of her garden, porch, or living room. When her family was younger, she loved camping trips with her family and friends. There were many happy trips both in Minnesota state parks and longer trips to national parks. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling abroad to many European destinations. Phyllis was a 60-year member of Zion Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and participated in many volunteer activities.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin; her parents; and siblings, Karen and John. She is survived by her daughter, Sally (Tim McManus); son, Jerry (Mary McGuiggan); and her grandchildren, Rachel (Dan) Ries, Leah, and Naomi.
A Memorial Service was held at Zion Lutheran Church, 1601 4th Avenue, South, Anoka on Friday, January 26th, 2024. Memorials may be directed to the North Suburban Center for the Arts.
