Placido's Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of the great Placido Lopez Jr., 48, who made his final transition peacefully in the early afternoon of Sunday, August 11, 2024 succumbing to a brief illness at Harlingen Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas surrounded by his loving family & dear friends.  While our hearts will mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering. Placido lived a meaningful & honorable life where his wonderful journey ended here on earth but will continue in the heavens for eternal life. He will be singing & dancing in the streets of gold. In Placido’s final thoughts he shared his pride & love for family & life, and sincere thanks to all his friends and wonderful people he met along the way that supported him.

Placido was born on November 28, 1975 in Harlingen, Texas to loving parents, Placido Lopez Sr. & Maria Ignacia Bolanos Lopez.

He was a lifelong resident of Harlingen, Texas where he grew up and attended Harlingen public schools, and graduated from Harlingen High School-South Class of 1995 where he played football for the Mighty HAWKS.

Placido went on to continue his love & passion for a singing career in Tejano music where he met many great Tejano singing artists and sang along beside them. He was the lead singer of his band “Los Gavilanes de Harlingen.”

He was a very honorable & humble man who loved his family, and had a wonderful voice that could sing like an angel. Placido enjoyed spending time with his band & having a good time with friends. He was vibrant, passionate, had an infectious personality & smile, he was very well known, and loved by all that knew him. Placido was a loving son, husband, brother, uncle, & friend who will be dearly & greatly missed.

Greeting him in the heavens with loving arms will be his father, Placido Lopez Sr.; niece, Nayeli Lopez; and father-in-law, Hilario Avila Sr. whom he is predeceased by.

Left behind to cherish Placido’s wonderful memory are his loving family, wife, Criselda M. Lopez; mother, Maria Ignacia Bolanos Lopez; 1 brother, Jose Guadalupe Lopez; 1 sister, Rosa Elia Lopez; 4 nephews, Joey Lopez, Angel Lopez, Adrian Lopez, & Yovani Avila; 2 nieces, Ivanna Lopez & Adamari Avila; mother-in-law, Maria Isabel Avila, and brother-in-law, Hilario Avila Jr. He also leaves behind, April Rain Lopez who was his Shih Tzu fur baby who he loved & adored like his daughter.

Visitation and a Celebration of Life will be held for family & friends on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the prayer of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Monte Bello Ballroom located on 22805 FM 508 Harlingen, Texas 78550.

A funeral procession will depart Trinity Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2024 for a mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Interment will follow immediately to Mont Meta Memorial Park Cemetery in San Benito, Texas.

Honored to serve as his pallbearers will be Rudy Ruiz, Eddie Ruiz, Benny Pena, Ethan Ruiz, Rick Diaz, Rene Rosenbaum, Jose Guadalupe Lopez, Luis Martinez, Joey Lopez, Ralph Macias, Alberto Mendez, Hilario Avila Jr., & Josue Garza.

Honorary pallbearers will be Adrian Lopez, Angel Lopez, Juventino Maldonado, Dr. Rolando Posada, & Edward “Bevo” Villagomez.

Placido’s departure comes to us as a great shock and a deep wound, and it is gravely felt by his entire family and countless others who loved him deeply in his wide-network of community. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Rolando Posada for his wonderful care & attentiveness to Placido. The family deeply appreciates all your love & support during this difficult time.
