It was roughly 40 years ago when I was a new member of the Phoebus Lions Club that I met Polly Simmons. I was the program chairman for our Lions club and Polly and her supervisor Susie Newman were scheduled to be co-guest speakers at our dinner meeting. They presented a slideshow of the brand-new downtown Hampton Public Library, a $7 million facility.
