My condolences and prayers to the family. RD was a really kind and funny man. I remember him always in an upbeat mood, and making us laugh at Lockheed Martin and always making sure all was well with everyone. He will be missed.

A Life Well-Lived
John 14:18 “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”
Mr. R. D. Russell, 77, saddled up his horse and rode into the arms of Jesus during the twilight hours on Thursday, December 18, 2025. His life can best be summarized by five "F" words: Family, Friends, Food, Fun, and Faithful.
Born to Norma Lee and J. B. Russell on March 31, 1948, in Karnack, Texas, R. D. was reared in the Lake Como Community. He attended Como Elementary, Como Junior/Senior High Schools, and graduated in 1966. He joined Strangers Rest Baptist Church, where he accepted Christ and was baptized under the pastorage of Rev. R. W. West, Sr. After holding memberships at several area churches, God led R. D. to unite with Johnson Chapel AME Church, where he served faithfully as a Trustee until his health declined.
R. D. married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Howard, on June 24, 1967. To this union two children were born Reginald Douglas and Ericka LaShaun Russell.
He proudly served in the United States Army, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSG) E6. His service took him and his family to various parts of the world. Following active service, he joined the Reserves and participated in Operation Desert Storm and Operation Honduras. As a retired Honored Vet, R. D. showed the love of Christ through his commitment to his family and country.
R. D. began his career with Teague Lumber Company (now Sutherland), followed by Texas Steel, Bell Helicopter, and finally Lockheed Martin, from which he retired in 2021.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, son, papa, uncle and friend. R. D. loved being around family and friends, sharing his passion for raising horses, riding in parades, traveling, and cooking. He especially enjoyed spending time with his Como classmates and army pals.
R. D. had a heart of gold, always looking out for others, offering a listening ear, or a comforting hug. He was fully present for his family and worked tirelessly in their lives, showing up whenever needed.
R. D. leaves to cherish his memory: Shirley Ann Russell, his wife of 58 years; children, Reginald Douglas (Chrissy) and Ericka LaShaun Russell; mother, Ms. Norma Lee Russell; grandchildren, Jazamine (Danyail), Jayide, Caulin, Kendell, Jillian, and Brittany Russell; great-grandchildren, Lyric Russell, Abdul Khalid, and Mackenzie Russell Cross; sisters, Bernice Russell and Inez Ward; sisters-in-law, Mary Bell, Beverly Boyd (Aaron), and Doris Howard; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. J.B. Russell; brother, Willie Ray Russell; and sister, Unice Russell.
