Not sure what to say?

I worked with Ralph for many years. He was a good boss an always fair. When my wife had breast cancer he gave me the time needed to take care of her. He always said family comes first. He was a good man and will be missed.

He was a great human being! We will miss him!

Ralph was an amazing man. His energy lit up a room and the lifted the spirits of all around him. I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with him and knowing him. The world has lost a good one.
My thoughts are with our family and hope the best for healing.

Ralph will be sorely missed by his many, many friends. I have great memories of playing fantasy football with Ralph and listening to his radio show while I lived in Fairfax. In later years he hosted his football compadres every year for our annual draft and welcomed all of into his home. Ralph had a wonderful sense of humor and we always enjoyed laughing with him. My thoughts and prayers are with Ralph and his wonderful family. Peace be with you Ralph.

I met Ralph at work in early 2019 and he and I talked often. Most of our conversations would start with work but the latter part of our calls would stray into humor or his radio show. His humor was infectious and was often a great way for him to keep coworkers smiling even through deadlines or when projects weren't going as planned. As I got to know Ralph more and he shared his diagnosis, we got closer as I have had two battles with cancer myself. We talked about drug co-pays and...

For our dear friend Ralph and his family who we have known for more than 40 years, our hearts are broken. We have many fond memories but the ones that stand out the most are the love of sports, especially Washington DC sports and a wide variety of music. Just recently Ralph indicated that he would have to give up the radio show that we/Ralph and Tim had hosted together for more than 15 years and over 700 shows. More than anything we will miss his sense of humor and his laugh and the...

Obituary

Ralph's Obituary

Ralph Edward Young Jr. returned home to his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ on September 9th. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Rhea and Ralph Edward Young, along with many cherished relatives, whom he always made sure to visit on his yearly trips to Wheeling, West Virginia, with his family. He was a native of Northern Virginia, but his roots ran strong in Wheeling.

Ralph had many loves in his life, and one of the loves were sports. His teams included Notre Dame football, Washington Redskins, and the Washington Capitals. His enjoyment of sports led him to host his own radio show on public radio. But his love for sports was nothing in comparison to his love of Jesus Christ, and his amazing family.

His family started with the meeting of his beautiful wife, Peggy, at a Capitals game. Married in 1986, Ralph and Peggy had two children: Renee and Nicholas. Through the years, his family expanded, with Renee and Nick meeting their third strands: Robert and Catherine. Ralph accepted both as his own and treated them as such.

Ralph had an “adopted” son, as well. Christian was as big of a part of the family, as either of his children were.

The home that Ralph and Peggy built on Burnthill Court was open to all! Ralph never met a stranger, and he opened their home to them with delicious food, and ice cold beverages. He lived to entertain the masses. The more, the merrier. Independence Day, crab feasts, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day were his time to shine. And he did a damn good job both cooking and bringing the hospitality.

Ralph loved everyone. He went out of his way to make people laugh, and to give them at least a brief minute of joy. He and Peggy enjoyed going to the wine tastings at Pazzo Pomodoro. The outfits he wore during certain times were veiled as “trying to win the contests”. But it was his way of making people laugh; the awards were secondary to him.

Our dear Ralph is gone, but he lived his life by serving others, and he was always last in helping himself. He left us first, but we believe he did so to make sure everything is just right, for the rest of us. Ralph is survived by his amazing wife, Peggy, their children, Renee and Nick, his son-in-law, and his daughter-in law, Robert and Catherine, respectively. He also had his two “adopted” granddaughters in Kamilah and Kaylee. Lastly, he had two “GrandDogthers”, Brandy and Bailey, whom he loved and enjoyed seeing for the split second, before they smothered him on his recliner, as they gave him all the loves.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 @10:30 at St. Theresa Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park.
