Not sure what to say?

I will always remember my Pappy as the best I could have had...my grandparents were both ( him and Carol) such an important part of my life from as early as I can remember. Holidays, birthdays, everything , was always with them. My Pap was so generous, involved, and ALWAYS THERE. Just look at his scrapbooks to see how important his family was to him; he has every record of every achievement and important event. I even lived with my grandparents more than once during my lifetime. I could...

I would like to thank Ralph Veltre for being the best big brother anyone could ask for. In countless ways on countless days he helped me get through my youth, and he did it by showing me, mostly though his good example , how do do the right thing. Ralph was the patriarch of the Veltre family, and my branch of the family tree loved and respected "Uncle Fo". Ralph Veltre had a good life, a long life. He will be missed, but we will be left with good and happy memories of our "Uncle Fo".

A life very well lived. Condolences to family and friends.

I think a lot of us in the family will agree, our "Fo" was a uniquely wonderful and treasured member of our family. He had a way of making every family gathering feel special. Whether it was a witty one-liner, a quiet insight, or a reminiscing story of absent loved ones, he had a gift for bringing people together in a joyful manner. Time with Uncle Fo was full of belly laughs and that unmistakable feeling of being loved, understood, and cherished as part of a large, caring family. All of us...

Raphael's Obituary

Age 93, born in the Southside of Pittsburgh where his parents Joseph Veltre and Carmela (Grande) Veltre resided, having migrated from Italy through Ellis Island in New York. Loving husband of 43 years to Carol Ann (Gmiter) Veltre who preceded him in death. Devoted partner of Ann Beck for the past 25 years.

He is survived by his sisters, Madeline Bruckner and Susan Denk, his brother Sam and his children Melinda (Ken) Eiben, Wanda Kent and Joseph (Kimberly). He was the proud, affectionate grandfather of Tara (Eric) Jagnow, Monika Kent, Joey Kent, Vincent and Michael Veltre, Emily (Mark) Waugh and Sarah Eiben. Great grandfather of Jordan Jagnow and Violet Waugh.

Ralph completed a long, successful career as a civil servant, advancing through highly responsible positions within the federal government - primarily as an IRS agent and supervisor as well as various roles in the Department of Energy, and Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Following his retirement, he built on his significant tax expertise and eventually created his own business, establishing Veltre Tax Service in the South Hills region. Over the next 30 plus years he provided services to an ever-expanding clientele, preparing personal and business tax returns, representing clients under audit and negotiating settlements for a range of “problem cases.”

Ralph was an outstanding athlete in his day until a severe knee injury during a “sandlot” football game ended his competitive career. Later in life he volunteered as a coach for the St. Louise de Marillac  football and basketball programs, teaching and mentoring a wide range of young student athletes and leading several teams to championship seasons in the Diocesan leagues of that period.

A passionate “foodie” (ahead of his time), Ralph possessed a legendary appetite and fortunately his lifelong commitment to exercise and fitness allowed him to fully enjoy his love of a delicious meal.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Doctors Without Borders or the Wounded Warrior Project.

Family and friends are welcomed at the WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 216 44th Street, Lawrenceville, on Saturday, April 26, 2025 from 12-4 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 3:45 p.m.
