I only recently found out Raul had passed away. It makes me very sad. Raul and I went to school together from elementary thru high school. I will never forget his sweet smile and beautiful eyes. Raul was always an exceptional person. I am disappointed I will not see him at Hirschi High’s class reunion this weekend. He will be in my heart and never be forgotten. My prayers go out to his family and friends who were lucky enough to have Raul touch their lives. Rest In Peace Raul.

My condolences to all of Raul's family.
I am in shock to learn of Raul's passing. I always admired his character and cherished his friendship. The two memories I will always recall of Raul are, the night he and Willie Duran asked me to drive them to Scotland Park (from the Jamica festival) so they could have a fight. Seems they decided they were going to settle who would win Mickey Jimenez's heart. Seems neither won, she decided on someone else. LOL
The other thing I will...

I will miss you so much it will never be the same for me when I go back to WF .I'm gonna miss going out to dinner with you and catching up on everything that happend since the last time we saw each other I'll miss your calls you were my best friend .you were there for me through thick and thin .

I'm gonna miss my friend. A gentle giant with a generous spirit. My condolences to the family and all that loved him.

Raul will be greatly missed. I pray peace for the family during this distressful time. "Rhalilama" (the wise one) meant so much to me. I can hear his laugh and see that heartwarming smile. May we all live the way he would want us to. Peace, love, and prayers for the family.

I am very sorry for the loss of Raul. He was a great friend of mine in high school. We played football together for many years at Hirschi. I will never forget about Raul, may GOD bless him and his family. SR. class of 71.

Raul's Obituary

Raul (Sonny) M .Vasquez, Jr.,68, of Wichita Falls passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 Thursday evening, January 28, 2021 at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.

Raul was born March 22, 1952 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Raul Vasquez, Sr. and Pauline O. Sanchez

Raul graduated from Hirschi High School in 1971. He worked and retired from Howmet Aerospace.

He was a recovering addict for thirty years, plus and was proud of and shared his road to recovery with all those who asked and listened. Along his path to recovery, he helped and mentored many average people from all backgrounds so that they too were able to recover, move forward and seek out a more productive life. It did not matter who you were or what was going on, he would always find time to help someone work on their sobriety and help them accomplish a sober life without judgement. He left a beautiful legacy of hope, help and love for many people when no was looking.

Following in his father’s footsteps, he was active in his community, even having served as Chairman of the American G. I. Forum, a Hispanic Veterans Organization. He helped and encouraged people, not only his own family, but others who sought help to achieve higher education or become involved in solving community issues and problems with many community members needing help. He was also a pioneer in bringing Tejano music to the Hispanic Community here in Wichita Falls by bringing Tejano groups such as Culture and Shelly Lares.

‘Sonny’ was preceded in death by his father, Raul M. Vasquez, Sr.; his mother Pauline O. Sanchez; his step-father, Esquel Sanchez; sister, Yvonne Castillo and nephew, Ernest Castillo, Jr.

Survivors are a sister, Rebecca (Becky) Rios and husband Frank; brothers Ernest (Ernie) Vasquez and Felix Vasquez; brother-in-law, Ernest Castillo, Sr., all of Wichita Falls. Also surviving are his beloved nieces, nephews and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Raul served as a father and helped raise Krysla Dawn, Shelley S. Wright and Samuel Stephens, all of whom he loved and considered his own along with his much loved grandson, Jude.
