Raymond Camino Obituary

Following a lengthy illness, Ray Camino, 85, passed away at home in Mesa, Arizona on Friday June 13, 2025 with his family at his side.  Born on April 20, 1940, Ray grew up in Gilroy and married his high school sweetheart, Marcia, in 1962.  Together they raised their three children in Gilroy while Ray worked as a plumber in the Camino Plumbing family business and then later in the San Jose area.  When Ray and Marcia retired, they moved to Shaver Lake, California where they both enjoyed the peace and serenity of living in the mountains.  They lived there for 18 years before relocating to Arizona to be closer to family.  Ray enjoyed all kinds of music and remained a loyal 49ers fan even after moving away from the Bay Area in 1995.

Throughout his life Ray enjoyed the outdoors to the fullest by hunting, fishing, camping, and jeeping.  Most of all, he loved his family and his role as husband, dad, and grandpa, all of which he excelled at.  Ray was a gentle soul, was generous with his time and talents, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially his family.

Surviving Ray are his wife of 63 years Marcia, his son Tom (Lynn) Camino of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, his daughter Carrie (Chris) Bailey of Mesa, Arizona, his five granddaughters, Sarah Smith (Kyle) of Brecksville, Ohio, Jodi Camino of Atlanta, Georgia, Lauren Paul (Andrew), Emily and Alyssa Bailey, all of Mesa, Arizona.  He was preceded in death by his parents Ernie and Ida Camino, his son Ken Camino, and his granddaughter Stephanie Camino.  He is also survived by his sisters, Jeanne Maggiora and Linda Elia, and brother, Mike Camino.

No services are scheduled at this time.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Mayo Clinic at give.mayoclinic.org, the American Cancer Society, or to the American Heart Association.

Ray was the nicest kindest gentleman and the best plumber/pipefitter there is. I worked with Ray at Hellwig plumbing at the IBM project in the tunnel in Almaden Valley when I was first paired with him. We were hand in hand when the Morgan Hill earthquake hit and we were in the tunnel and could not escape at that moment. He put up with so much of my silliness and laughed at everything. Nothing upset Ray. It was the best time of my life working with him. I was blessed to know Ray as he taught me allot about plumbing and life. I will always think of him as a partner in laughter and a teacher in life.

Sending blessings to the Camino family .... who treated me so well 1975 - 2005. I remember Ray in his garage tinkering away on his jeep. He was a very kind and helpful person. He stepped in and showed me how to check the oil in my car after my dad had died the summer before my senior year of high school....and explained what type of oil I needed for a V-8.
